Chapter 86 - Planning
Ella rolled her eyes and gave it a thought. She did speak bluntly, and it was a rude request to make. Not only that, she knew it was an embarrassing thing to ask as well. Anyone would feel displeased when someone jumps in and asks to lend his room. But there was no other place than here that was this perfect with its security.
‘Let’s just do it and see.’ Just like she had to give Cladis a chance, in the end, Ella figured Xyle, too, would lend her this room in the end. ‘If it doesn’t work, I’ll just start a tantrum or something. He’ll agree in the end.’
That was her selfish idea. She felt a bit guilty for trying to drag Xyle into this when he was trying to run away, but Ella couldn’t consider that. She was trying hard to survive in this world where she was sucked into all of a sudden. At the same time, she was also trying to help such a world. Because of that, she thought it was alright to be selfish.
However, if she were to show such selfishness toward Xyle’s question, she might get kicked out of there. Ella searched for an answer to persuade him. She thought of all kinds of flattering words, but they were all lies and didn’t seem to work on him.
‘How should I persuade him? What can I be for him? What am I to him that I can ask him for help?’
Ella slowly searched Xyle’s face, who was looking down on her with cold eyes. Aside from how he was from the books and the usefulness of information that he holds, she concentrated on seeing the real him.
While Ella was organizing her attitude while talking to him, Xyle, too, was trying his best to analyze the girl that barged in through his territory in the most objective way possible. Then he asked himself if he could be sure that the reason why he was interested in this girl was just the world’s order playing tricks on him.
‘Is that all? Are you sure?’ Xyle asked himself.
As their eyes met each other while thinking about each other, time stopped. It was Xyle, who first woke up from the time freeze and looked away. Numb from the heart-dropping moment, Xyle slowly turned his head back. He had to push himself to return to his position again, so it wasn’t right to meet her eyes like this.
‘You’re the Master of the Magical Tower of the Long Moonlight. Don’t forget that,’ Xyle reminded himself of his position and his role. He was relieved that it was enough to stop his heart from racing toward Ella and ignored his pounding heart.
Ella looked at Xyle, who took a step back while looking away, and saw his ears had turned red. He was trying to move away with a cold expression, but his true intent that he couldn’t get away was at the tips of his ears. That sight made her feel his heart. A smile slowly faded away from Ella’s face.
‘If I shake him more, he will helplessly be shaken.’
She found herself stopping at that realization and pushed down a bitter smile. Ella felt he was looking away and her hesitating to be similar. Just like Xyle, who was trying to push her away even when he was into her, she, too, felt comfort in him. However, she found it burdensome that Xyle was flustered by this.
‘He will come closer as I shake him. Can I take responsibility for his feelings?’
Ella stopped at the question she threw at herself. They had too many thoughts in their heads to love one another and fall into another without thinking. Not only that, they were of such an age that they realized those things even without needing to think about it. She couldn’t imagine the burden of his life and his position. The question revolved and came back.
‘What do I want to do with him? What can we be to each other?’
Ella had to find an answer to this question. That was the only way to know how she should treat him. But the both of them didn’t know too much about each other to make such a conclusion. They had only met twice. It was time to think about it further rather than to make a hasty conclusion. She came to such a thought and decided to use the words that she used on Cladis before she found the answer. It seemed like the best word to use when the relationship was awkward.
“Hm… What if it is a request from a friend?” Ella asked.
Unlike Cladis, who was relieved by the word “friend,” Xyle looked obviously displeased by the word as he watched her. He seemed to find it very lacking. He wasn’t bold enough to claim, “I like you. I will take care of the rest,” or such, but he sure didn’t want to conclude this relationship as friends.
‘So greedy,’ thought Ella.
She, too, couldn’t conclude that she tried to explain her relationship with Xyle with such vague words, but the man wasn’t even doing anything when he couldn’t give up on his greed. Ella’s eyes grew angry. She then spoke with the sulkiest voice she could make and attacked his weakness, “But you’ll get angry if I say you’re protagonist candidate 1. Isn’t that right?”
“Why would I do such a thing?”
Look at that. He stepped right away and cowered. Ella understood his position and knew it made him think about a lot of things. But outright cowering away like this made her unable to suppress her will to tease him.
“Right, that’s why, a friend. Can’t you lend your room to your special friend?”
