Chapter 60 - Incoming Calls
Now, Kyuyoung would be the new shiny toy he could use to preoccupy his time. When he took her in bed the first time, he was caught off guard by the unbelievable amount of pleasure that had engulfed him. The intensity of the experience had baffled him, but ultimately, he concluded it was a temporary phenomenon. He wasn’t sure how long his interest in her would persist, but for now she was the only thing that fascinated him.
For the time being, he wanted to savor the feeling of slowly binding her, blindfolding her eyes, and turning her into a crying mess. The sight of her crying out loud or struggling to fight back her tears would be equally pleasing. He wanted to see her begging for him to pierce her, and how she’d struggle with difficulty when he finally thrust into her. He wanted to relish every moment as he slowly backed her into a corner with his mind games and devoured her body.
“It’ll be quite fun.”
Yoongun put out his cigarette and closed the window. The thunder continued ominously throughout the night.

It was a drab day, with Seoul’s sky covered in gray smog. The fine dust particles mixed in the dry air created a gloomy overcast day, blotting out the sunny, blue sky. There was a haze from the smog too. Normally, Kyuyoung could see out to Namsan Tower from her desk, but now she could barely make out the faint figure of the building. Perhaps impacted by the view, her eyes also felt dry and stiff as she looked outside. She pulled out her eye drops and a few blinks later, was ready to head down to the café.
When she arrived, she found the café to be more crowded than usual. It seemed many avoided going out that day because of the dreary weather. Still, Kyuyoung was in a rush, so she eventually ventured outside to buy her coffee. A brisk five-minute walk was all it took for her to feel covered in grime. She desperately wished she could just head home, take a shower and lie down in bed.
The spring and fall seasons were always tough for Kyuyoung. Her weak respiratory system made her particularly susceptible to unstable weather. Today was no different. Her body reacted poorly to the low air quality; she was racked with endless coughs and felt feverish to the touch. It would’ve been better if it was colder weather; at least the cold air would help sweep away the impurities in the air.
After she’d returned to her desk, Kyuyoung noticed her phone blinking from the corner of her desk. She frowned and let out a deep sigh, quickly flipping her phone over and turned her attention back to her screen. When the calls first started, she’d turned off the ringtone and switched to vibration, but each time her phone lit up with a new incoming call, she felt her body tense. She was feeling especially sensitive because the caller ID read ‘mother-in-law.’ It was Jihyuk’s mother. She’d forgotten to change the contact info, and wondered if it would’ve been better to simply block the number. She couldn’t believe she was still seeing the words mother-in-law when the woman was now simply her assailant.
Through the lawyer Yoongun had introduced, Kyuyoung had officially brought a suit against Jihyuk’s mother. That was when the calls from unknown numbers began. She initially thought they were spam calls, or from people who’d found out about the incident.
At first, she ignored the calls, but when she finally picked up in frustration, the person at the other end hurled threats and demanded her cooperation, instead of offering an apology and asking for a favor. Since then, she continued to receive a deluge of calls from unknown numbers, but these days they were all coming from the number saved as mother-in-law. Kyuyoung had to assume the woman had tired of trying to mask her identity.
Kyuyoung had expressed her disinterest in talking by simply ignoring the calls and blocking the messages, but nothing seemed to deter that woman. She was almost impressed at how much effort Jihyuk’s mother made in constantly switching her number too, since she hadn’t bothered hiding the caller IDs before dialing. She wondered how many people were in Jihyuk’s mother’s circle that she could continue to freely borrow their cellphones.
Jihyuk: Kyuyoung.
Jihyuk: Kyuyoung, my mother wants to officially apologize to you. You’re not a vindictive person, right? I agree that my mother made a mistake. Could you please pick up the phone?
The company messenger window began to flash as soon as the incoming calls ceased. She’d already blocked Jihyuk’s number a long time ago, but there was no way to block him on the company messenger app. Even though she resolutely ignored him, he continued to message her without a break.
