CHAPTER 29: My Little Girl (20)
Sheng Qianmo carried the little girl back to his bed. Shu Nuan was sleeping soundly and showed no signs of being disturbed when he moved. She even grasped his arm like a pillow. For her comfort, Sheng Qianmo let it be embraced so.
Shu Nuan’s two hands held onto his arm, as her face pressed against it. Her hot breath sprayed on his arm, making him feel a warm sensation on his skin. But deep down, it did not affect his emotions.
Sheng Qianmo bowed his head, looking at the little girl sleeping in his arms. He reached out with his finger to touch her nose. It seemed she could tell something was touching her as she slightly wrinkled her nose. From seeing her react like this, Sheng Qianmo’s mouth curved upwards as he thought of a wicked idea. He pinched her nose, and upon doing so Shu Nuan’s brows knitted together even tighter.
Still asleep, she brought her hand up toward her nose. Yet Sheng Qianmo easily captured it before she could wave away whatever was disturbing her. She seemed to like it, looking almost relieved as her hand rested in his palm. To maintain this pleasant feeling, she dared not move.
Sheng Qianmo then gently squeezed her hand, but this time the sleeping girl seemed to dislike it, as she tried to free her hand. She murmured something in a low voice and turned back from him, as if unwilling to sleep with him.
Sheng Qianmo didn’t tease the little girl any more. He laid down sideways against her back. Stretching out his arms, he put them around her waist as he bowed his head. Against her soft hair, he slowly closed his eyes.
Sheng Qianmo didn’t know how long he slept for. His eyebrows knitted together as he woke up facing Shu Nuan. He embraced her earnestly. Small hands clutched at his back out of the blue.
Thinking about how this girl could not settle down at all while sleeping一doesn’t matter how quiet and clever she was awake一he couldn’t help but find it interesting.
After a while she curled up and leaned forward as she placed her foot on his leg, then like a koala on a branch, hugged him earnestly. Like a child that didn’t feel safe and wanted to hold on to the thing that made it feel at ease.
Although Sheng Qianmo was unable to sleep at first because of how restless she got, he soon got used to it. He found out that as long as he held her firm, she would not move much.
The lamp on the bedside was bright, and outside the room the moon was also making an appearance with its light seeping into the room.
Over time, the clouds on the horizon brightened.
Early in the morning, Shu Nuan woke up in a daze. She felt something warm and familiar against her body. Puzzled, she opened her eyes to a vision foggy from sleep. Suddenly she wanted, and tried, to move but found her hands and legs staying still.
Shu Nuan found herself holding someone. She was even bear hugging him with all limbs.
Shu Nuan held her breath and lifted her head carefully.
Her gaze went over his Adam’s apple before the man’s face came into view. He had his eyes closed but the indifference and coldness remained as ever. Maybe because his eyes that usually looked quite oppressing were closed, but for a moment she had the illusion that this person looked very gentle.
As Shu Nuan held her breath she also stared unblinking at the man in front of her. She didn’t move until she finally recovered after a while. The little girl tried to move the hand that held her narrow back, only to hear Sheng Qianmo’s deep voice.
“I’ve been holding you all night, is it not enough?”
