Chapter 21: Who was Lu Xingyan?
“I am her husband. There were some matters in the past, so I didn’t announce it to the public.” Ji Nanfeng explained, before Mo Lixin could finish off her sentence.
Mo Lixin raised her head to look at Ji Yinfeng, recalling the promise she made when they just got married.
She wasn’t allowed to tell others that they were married.
For instance, she had to pretend like they were strangers if they met.
She wasn’t allowed to ask about his personal life.
There were many more. Mo Lixin remembered everything. She was scared of making Ji Yanfeng unhappy, but…lately…he had broken a lot of the promises. While she was happy, she also feared that everything was a dream and it would disappear once she woke up.
“I don’t think I need to introduce myself. This is my Elder Brother, Lu Xingyan. I am the youngest and Ji Nanfeng is third in the family. We are sworn brothers.”
Gan Yunting neared Xu Qingman with intent, and said this in her ears, feeling narcissistic and charming.
Xu Qingman glared at him. “Why do you have to move that close to talk to me? Are you not good with your words or do you think that I’m deaf?”
“Hi Elder Brother. If Xin Xin also calls you Elder Brother, I’ll also be shameless and call you Elder Brother. I am Xu Qingman or you can call me Xiao Man or Man Man as long as you don’t mind.” Xu Qingman said to Lu Xingyan, slightly afraid. Besides Gan Yunting and Xin Xin, they seemed very powerful. Plus, she didn’t know why but she felt a familiarity from him.
“Mhm…it doesn’t matter to me. It’s my fortune to have a beautiful sister.” Lu Xingyan naturally didn’t have any opinions. The woman in front of him and his sister-in-law were two women with completely different styles. However, her eyes held purity and innocence, which he liked. Of course, he only liked her as a little sister.
Xu Qingman placed her hand on Mo Lixin’s shoulders.“Xin Xin, why are you lost in thought while staring at your hubby? Let me tell you something. If you don’t explain everything to me in private later on, I won’t let you go!”
Mo Lixin’s heart skipped a beat when she heard “your hubby”, her face flushing a deep shade of red.
“Ok! Let’s go now.” Ji Yanfeng glanced at the hand on Mo Lixin’s shoulder, feeling uneasy. Even if the hand belonged to a woman.
“Where are we going?…” Xu Qingman placed her attention on these people, so she naturally didn’t notice that they were going to eat.
“We’re going to eat!” Mo Lixin answered.
“Xin Xin… I’m going to be a vegetarian for a few days. You…know this.” As Xu Qingman said this, a gloomy mood took over her, thinking of her dead father.
Mo Lixin just remembered what happened in Xu Qingman’s family. Seeing how carefree she was today, she actually forgot what happened. Damnit. She felt a slight sense of guilt.
She turned around to speak to Ji Nanfeng. “Nanfeng, how about…you guys go eat? I’ll stay…”
“We’ll stay with you guys too! Yunting, where is the closest vegetarian restaurant? You’re familiar with this area.” Ji Nanfeng asked.
Gan Yunting knew what happened with Xu Qingman, so he naturally didn’t have any opinions. “Not far from here. It’s only about a 10 minute drive and the food is also good. Let’s go there. Elder Brother, do you have any opinions?” Gu Yunting said.
“Let’s go. I’m already getting tired of eating fish and meat every day!” Lu Xingyan knew there was more to it.
As expected, when they entered the car, Lu Xingyan received Gan Yunting’s message that Xu Qingman’s parents died.
Who was Lu Xingyan? Not even thirty years old and he was already a major general. With his countless years of experiences and intuition, he knew that this matter wouldn’t be so simple. How could they all die at the same time? Unless this was a car accident. However, it wasn’t his business, so he refrained from meddling in the matter.
There were three seats in the back and Mo Lixin sat in the middle while Ji Nanfeng and Xu Qingman sat on opposite sides of her.
The car descended into silence and Mo Lixin wanted to break this atmosphere but didnt know what to say.
“Um, Xiao Man, I don’t know if I should say this…” No one expected Lu Xingyan to talk right now.
“Uhmm? Elder…Elder Brother, go ahead.”
“Right, your parents…” Lu Xingyan couldn’t say it too directly and he didn’t know why he was overly concerned with this girl.
“They’re dead…the debt collectors were hot on their trails and they accidentally…got into a car accident.” Xu Qingman didn’t bother to hide either. She had already drank quite a bit yesterday so she felt much better now. Plus, the sense of familiarity she felt towards Lu Xingyan made it easier to open up about.
“Then where are they? The people driving? The debt collectors?”
“They all ran off. I called the police, but…” Xu Qingman was overcome with sadness as she spoke, when she suddenly thought of something. She leaned forward, and spoke, with her voice full of emotion, “Elder Brother, can you guys help me? I don’t want my parents to die in vain!”
