Chapter 42 : Arriving in Kyuushu Starting From Zero
The breeze that hinted sea water saltiness feels nice and The wave that was coming non-stop is giving the feeling of a real adventure.
「Finally to Nagasaki huh, I can’t wait to be there~」
「This is the first time I’m going to Kyuushu」
Aoi-san was combing her ash grey colored hair to her ear as she replied to my words.
「Maybe Shinji and Midori-san is already at Kagoshima around this time」
「Yeah, they might be so, they had departed faster than us after all」
I could see anxiety, delightful, along with the sense of loneliness in Aoi-san face for taking different route from her best friend beyond this point.
Shinji and Midori-san isn’t here with us. We had separated our ways with me and Aoi-san coming to Nagasaki while Shinji and Midori-san was choosing Kagoshima.
Because I was so sure that the four of us would definitely choose the same route, so I was completely speechless when I heard Shinji and Midori-san’s choice for the first time.
But at that time, I understood why Shinji and Midori-san was making that choice, thus it led to me traveling alone with Aoi-san. My heart might be broken if Aoi-san didn’t come with me too.
「We can always meet them in school, and if we really want to meet them in the game, we can just go back to Okinawa you know」
「Ah, you’re right. Midori will be laughing at me if she sees me like this」
From her face that was trying to do her best to look firm, I felt that she became more spirited than a while ago.
We who had chosen the route from Okinawa to Nagasaki arrived at Shimabara, the first city of Nagasaki. To express what kind of city is Shimabara in single line, it’s a port city. The salty smell of sea water that is entering my nasal cavity and the scenery of brawny NPC boarding on the fishing boat. The marine products that lines up on the market stall, even the second-hand shop is mainly dealing with marine related sports or fishing.
「Well now, where are we going first then」
As long as I can remember, I’ve been over relying on Shinji since I started playing this game and by this point I’ve realized how much I’m relying on him.
「Let see. I think we should try looking at the various merchant stores, or going to HelloWork to get a quest」
I see. Yup, since I know absolutely nothing about this city, we should start from touring the city. Moreover, I might grasp something by looking at the quest around this area…….. Yup.
「Well, how about we go to HelloWork first and see what kind of quest we will get in there? 」
That cute smile is really enchanting. I’m prepared to do anything for this girl.
「Good, let’s go then」
I went to HelloWork along with Aoi-san while regularly keeping our position from the city map at one end of my field of vision. But, I can’t get used to it no matter how much I’m seeing it. Yup, I can feel the curse of the management side within the writing in this display. This game is definitely drawing out the ugliest part of human heart.
Here I should divert my current emotion with words. ……. What? You get it wrong, 『HelloWork definitely isn’t a scary place as long as you go there with your friend』, yup, not scary at all. It’s definitely not the same reason like “Crossing the crosswalk isn’t scary if you’re not alone”.
D^mn it. I ended up thinking in negative way about HelloWork after all. I really can’t place that kind of label to that place. I’m still in high school, so I should be more positive about this.
「HelloWork sure makes you nervous isn’t it?」
Oops, do you really think so Aoi-san? Yeah, you must be very nervous huh. This is definitely not because I’m worrying about my future you see, yup, absolutely not. Riight.
「Hau! ? 」
Oh sh!t. I ended up speaking of my feeling due to the tensed atmosphere.
「Ah sorry, I suddenly said something strange」
「I- I see」
While doing this kind of conversation, we finally arrived at HelloWork.
「Uwaa……….. So much」
When we opened the door of HelloWork, many players are jammed into its big hall. Looking from their attire, many of them are adventurer like us. I decided to do a tactical retreat the last time I came here alone due to the overwhelming number of human in there but, now Aoi-san is coming with me. There’s no way I’m gonna showing that miserable side of mine.
「How about looking at the quest board first. Here, so that you won’t be separated from me」
Saying so, I grasped Aoi-san hand and then pushed my way through the crowds of human. It’ll turn into a disaster if we’re being separated in the middle of these sea of humans. And above all, Aoi-san has zero sense of direction. So I have no choice but to lead her properly.
「Yup, well……… Shall we go then?」
「A, Yes!. L-Let’s go in then! 」
Did she feel overwhelmed by this crowd? Her face also flushed red.
「Do you feel nauseated? Shall we take a short break? 」
「N-Nonono, rather I’m so H―― No, I mean I’m okay」
Really? You didn’t need to pay attention to my own feeling but……. Well if the person herself saying so, I have to trust her.
Nevertheless, the amount of commission is simply overwhelming. Just looking at all of them is already quite a feat.
「Ah, Sou-kun. How about this? 」
Saying so, Aoi-san is showing a commission sheet to me. Moreover, when I’m scanning over the content, a question suddenly popped out in my mind.
「This commission, the client seems to be a player of production job right. Does that mean the HelloWork also receive commissions from player? 」
「Yes. It’s rarely used due to the complex procedure involved but, it came out once in a while」
I see. But, above all else, I’m worried about the content of this commission. If I did it wrongly, this might greatly affect my play style on the later stage.
「So, what do you think? 」
Please don’t look at me with such anxious gaze. Do you want me to embrace you.
「Let’s try this. How about you, Blue?」
「Naturally, me too」
What a gentle girl you are…….. Being alone, just the two of us like this……. I won’t die due to a meteor crashing on me tomorrow right?.
「……. You’re welcome」
Her smile with tinge of red on her cheeks pierced the heart of many men in the surrounding in one go, including me of course. What a terrifying power.
Though I gave the commission sheet to the beautiful receptionist to complete the procedure of taking the commission, my memories are filled with Aoi-san extremely destructive smile.
■ □ ■ □ ■
「Is this, the place? 」
「I think so」
After receiving the comission from HelloWork, me and Aoi-san went till our feet brought us in front of a certain shop. Maybe because we were leaving toward the center of the city from the south, the salty smell of sea water is softened a bit.
「’Cus me, we’re coming to receive the commission」
When we’re arriving at our destination a while later and knocking on the door, the door opened slowly.
「Yeah, I heard about you guys from HelloWork staff. Well, please enter for now」
Saying so, a glasses-wearing slender man then invited us inside of his room. His age might be around 40 years old. He’s wearing everyday clothes that you always wear at home, this man doesn’t seem to be an adventurer at all.
Me and Aoi-san who is following that man then sat on the chair that surrounds a square table.
「My name is Smith. As a weapon artisan, my main specialization is firearms」
「My name is Sou. My job is gunner」
「I’m Blue. My job is minstrel. I came to accompany Sou-kun for this commission」
「It’s nice to meet you, Sou-kun, Blue-san. Welcome to my humble abode」
Smith-san is saying so as he offered a handshakes to us. From the firm feeling of his handshakes, I somehow guessed that he’s an aspiring man.
「I think you already know the gist of this request from the notice but, let me explain the content of my request again. This commission is a shooting test for firearms bullets. You’re going to test the performance of the bullets in the firing range in the basement and give a feedback about the bullets to me」
I confirmed that the content of the commission was the same one with the one written in the notice. It’s as he say, I’m going to test the performance of the bullets after this.
In the first place I never heard the existence of bullets in this world—- Or so till I came to HelloWork a while ago. Even when I’m coming to weapon shop a while ago, the one on the display is only the firearms, I didn’t see bullets at all.
In addition, in this world, a firearm will always be shooting bullets as long as we press the trigger. I mean, I’m not even doing the reloading process, I just wait for some times till all the bullets reloaded. Thus I thought that the concept of bullets had never been existed in this world. But if what Smith-san says is true, bullets does exist in this world. This theory means so much for me.
「Please allow me to explain for a while. My own gun is being supplemented with convenience bullets. I mean even after shooting out all of the bullets, it’ll be reloaded automatically as long as I let some times passes. Nevertheless, what makes these bullets so different? 」
「Yeah, your question is reasonable. In fact, I felt the same way as you till a while ago. I’m in fact learning a skill to create bullets amongst myriad weapon making skill just a while ago. And then, after seeing the fact that such skill provided by system, why not I try to make one. But after I made one, I realized that I have no arts or shooting skills or even eyes to judge the performance of my bullets. Thus, I’m recruiting someone to judge the differences between the bullets that was made by me and the bullets that is provided by automatic system」
So that’s the case. This might be because the management side thought that they absolutely shouldn’t allow dangerous things like making bullets with gunpowder but, it should be okay if the bullets were to be made with skill.
「I see. If that was the case, I can understand your reason」
This means that as long as the bullets were to be made with magnum sized bullet, my attack power will rise exponentially. Now I’m all fired up.
I’m following behind Smith-san toward the underground firing range.
