Chapter 8: What Did You Just Called Me? (1)
Although the woman who came in didn’t look that young anymore, she still looked beautiful. She was dressed like a rich lady, wearing expensive and precious pieces of jewelry on her wrists, neck, fingers, and ears. But with these things piled up on her, it only showed an obvious hint of being a nouveau riche.
Gu Yuanyuan had never thought that a ‘mother’ would suddenly show up after she transmigrated into this world. The original book never mentioned anything about Gu Yuanyuan having a mother, nor the four sons having a grandmother.
If you thought about it, she can’t just pop out like that out of nowhere, so it’s only normal for her to have a mother.
(e/n: the exact term for this line here is ‘石头里蹦出来’ >> a Chinese expression which means: ‘she jumped out of rock’ )
But the problem was, she had no memory about the original owner. Who knows, if this person was really her mother like what she just claimed. And Xiao Jiu? Was that her previous name?
While Gu Yuanyuan was still in the middle of thinking, the middle-aged woman seemed to be frightened at her strange expression. She froze. She was dumbfounded as her eyes quickly flashed through her thoughts. The rim of her eyes started to turn red as she directly held Gu Yuanyuan’s wrist, tighter and tighter.
“My poor child, ever since you left home, your father and I were worried about you. We have been looking for you everywhere, and your father was even more worried to the point that he can’t eat anymore. He was just hospitalized the day before yesterday.”
She bitterly cried, “If your sister hadn’t seen you just now, I wouldn’t even know that I would find you here.”
The ‘sister’ she mentioned in her mouth just now had silently walked in through the door. She was the beautiful woman who’s playing the piano that Gu Yuanyuan saw earlier when she went upstairs.
“Xiao Jiu, I’ve finally found you.” She said with the evident joy displayed in her eyes. Right now, she was very pleased and happy to see her daughter again. “Come, go home with us.”
The woman who claimed her mother said, “Yes, yes, if your father knew that you’re now back, he would surely be happy to see you back again. Don’t give him an attitude, ah.”
The pain on Gu Yuanyuan’s wrist was becoming more and more apparent, and as she finally couldn’t bear it anymore, she forcibly shook her hand away. Therefore, her so-called ‘mother’ stumbled on her foot, hitting the corner of the table in the process, and exclaimed loudly from the sudden pain.
Gu Yuanyuan slightly opened her sleeves, and her delicate, smooth, and white skin were now flushed with redness. There was a tingling hot sensation on her wrist that she couldn’t help but exhale deeply because of the pain.
Lin Shaosi arced his brows as he silently observed the situation. He couldn’t figure out what’s going on and he couldn’t speak.
Gu Yizhou’s eyes fell on her flushed red wrist. The redness was very striking to the eyes, obviously indicating that it came from a very harsh grip. He frowned as he asked, “Are they your family?”
Gu Yuanyuan turned her wrist to try and ease the burning pain on it, but as she was about to speak, the woman who was claiming to be her ‘mother’ interrupted her. With the support from the young woman beside her, her so-called ‘mother’ said as her tears started to fall from eyes, “Xiao Jiu, it’s been so long already. I was wrong. I knew it. I shouldn’t have discouraged your dad.”
“Stop!” Gu Yuanyuan shouted.
This person was definitely not her mother. If she was really her mother as she claimed to be, the emotional connection between the mother and the daughter would be very apparent, and she would not be bothered upon seeing her.
Like for example, after she caught sight of Erbao and Sanbao, she immediately felt the attachment to them and also the sense of compassion and love in her heart. There weren’t any unsettling feelings inside her. It was as if they were really her sons without a doubt.
At this exact moment, there was a sudden gush of information entering inside her head, just like the interpretation of the game when someone encountered an NPC.
(e/n: NPC means ‘Non-Player Character’)
And with this information here?
Fine, she will just treat these two people in front of her as an NPC. She rapidly sorted out the surge of memories flooding in her mind. Though, these pieces of memories had nothing to do with the original book.
However, the introductions in the book were very limited, and also, Gu Yuanyuan was now a living person. So it’s only normal to see some changes occurring.
The woman who’s claiming to be her mother was named Chen Yun. In actuality, she’s not really her mother, but she was just her stepmother.
The young woman who’s currently supporting her at her side was named Cheng Man’an. She was the daughter of Chen Yun and her ex-husband.
Presently, Chen Yun’s current husband is Cheng Zhenhua, who was the father of Gu Yuanyuan. After marrying Chen Yun, he acquired a cheap daughter from her. Cheng Man’an’s original surname was Yu, but after her mother married again, she changed it to Cheng and started to call Cheng Zhenhua her father.
Gu Yuanyuan’s childhood name was Xiao Jiu. It was given to her by her deceased mother, and for such a long time, she had wished her father to her call her on that name. But ironically, Cheng Zhenhua obviously doted that shameful Cheng Man’an way more than his real daughter, Gu Yuanyuan, which he only treated with coldness.
The information in her head just briefly explained the relationship between Gu Yuanyuan and these two people in front of her. And as for the other information that was unknown to her, she could still roughly deduced it from Chen Yun’s words. What she had understood now was that the original owner ran away from home for some unknown reasons and was somehow captured by Lu Wenchen.
The timeline she was on right now, has nothing to do with her four sons as the original timeline was completely disrupted. Gu Yuanyuan was not stupid enough to be unaware and to not take note of the current state of the timeline. But even she was aware of it, this situation was still beyond her understanding.
According to the character of Gu Yuanyuan recorded in the book, although she was quite frail and weak, she possessed a strong temperament and determination. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had to deal with that pervert Lu Wenchen, and she would not have died miserably at his hands.
So, from this angle of the situation, the reason why she left home was quite intriguing and was worth finding out. Because, if she really did have a comfortable and a good life at home, she would definitely not think of running away from them.
Besides, she’ still a minor, and furthermore, she’s not that stupid. What would happen to a little girl if she ran away from her home all alone?
