Chapter 34: Lost
Sages were known to have tamed the monster, a demon capable of devouring the flesh of the earth and all beings breathing peacefully. When sages disappeared through time from the face of the world, the monster, now without chains began fleshing on human beings hungrily. By some miracle, a wise sage on the tenth year of his life and a woman of pure golden hair appeared. Humanity regained its hope.

Droplets of cold sweat formed on Kailar’s temples, free falling down towards his shoulder whilst slowly watching Priya’s movements step by step. Even Enili and the other swordsmen grew anxious and nervous. If only they had the chance to rush in and oppress her with their big swords, but right now… they found themselves unable to. Their bodies shivered from cold fright. The fear they felt coursing through their bodies induced a sort of paralysis. They could feel Priya’s unlocked cage closing in on them.
Enili’s countenance, once dignified and holy morphed gravely to one facing the deep abyss. Before, she felt an oppression merely of Priya’s own strength but now, all she felt was the unraveling of the deep, dark abyss sucking her in and she helpless, unable to escape.
Her feet started softening.
Kailar breathed deeply. “Gawain, back down.” Facing his cousin, he commanded plain and calmly.
“But…” Gawain looked back, shouting helpless pleas. He’s not sure what sort of evil spirit or demon plagued Priya’s body nor did he understand what was happening. All he knew was the deep smoldering feeling of a dark power weighing him down. It was like the dark ocean pulling him down from its depths.
“But I am a knight! I am beholden to my duty! I must never shrink back in the face of tribulation! I am to guard my lady and protect my lord; I must be brave, upright, and just! I am a knight!” Gawain bellowed. The sword clenched and fist tightened. Though he felt he’d never stand a chance in the face of such oppression, he’d never fall back.
Unaware, a hand rested gently on his shoulder.
“It’s alright, Gawain. You’ve done well.” A shadowy figure flashed and swiftly moved towards the front, standing in between them and Priya. He blocked everyone’s view with such ease and calmness. “Gawain, leave this to me!”
“I certainly have a good eye.” Kailar smiled casually, muttering words meant only for him. “All the people I’ve laid my eyes upon turned out to be great. Here I am just wanting to play around, but it turns an incredible thing stands before me… the world truly is a delight. How wonderful.”
“Priya, what is it that you want?” Smiling as he’d always done, daring everyone to fall for that charming look, Kailar stepped forward. He looked at the demon-like Priya, genuinely looking at her so dazzlingly and somewhat exuding a calm confidence and slightly inflated ego. In truth, he looked like the sun, had people orbiting around him. Attolis was no exception. She was so close that it’d almost burn her. She wanted to be far away, but it seems fate would soon play a part in her life.
“Hungry… flesh… I want to eat flesh…” Her eyes kept moving back and forth between the three children before finally setting it on Kailar.
“Oh, do you want to eat me?” He smiled and reached out his hand.
“Come here, little boy.”
“Submit to me, kneel down, worship me, kiss my feet! Only then will I give you my flesh.” Kailar pulled out a knife from the tip of his boots, and slowly but gently did he cut his finger. Soon, a drop of blood oozed, ready to flow downwards.
“Ah….” Priya’s body flew towards Kailar. Her tongue stretched out, anxiously catching the blood dripping from the tip of his finger. “Good… ah… so good… delicious…” Priya licked her tongue. The taste of a human was delicious.
“Surrender to me! Bow down to me! Kiss my feet!” Kailar shouted authoritatively like a god.
“Ah… ahh… ahhhhhhhh…” Priya half knelt, gently sucking Kailar’s finger.
“Do you want more?” He smiled. “Truly, what a greedy child you are.” In a spur of a moment, Kailar sliced off his hand and threw it far away.
Like a puppy awaiting its treat, Priya immediately jumped to the deep, blue sky, swallowing the meat whole. She hadn’t landed yet.
“Come on down.” Healing himself, Kailar instructed his new pet, Priya. She acted according to the voice of the little monster.
“Kai, are you all right?” Cried Gawain.
“Don’t move. Yes, that’s it.” Kailar stroked Priya, kneeling halfway through. An orb of light appeared, and slowly did her wounds heal. The open wounds and cuts closened little by little.
“You did well.” He stroked her head and smiled. “What a good girl! So smart. Say, let’s get back to the road. I’ve somewhere to be. Get my unicorn.”
“No… if she was really that smart we’d already be in her stomach…” Dinessa looked at the now tamed cunning monster. She felt nothing but endless fear.
“No… he’s so smart that it scares me…” Enili shortly glanced at Dinessa. She’d been silent for a while, unable to speak. “Were it not for his defense, I fear you’d not wake up from the trap. You’d have died, unable to fight. Though that kid is truly something. Amidst the chaos, he’d already thought about all of this and acted according to his own plan… to lure her in with his own flesh… there must be something special in his body. How is he able to, without hesitation cut his own flesh? Sophia, would you not be hesitant?”
The short-haired swordswoman, Sophia replied awkwardly, cheeks flushed red. “If in the midst of a battle, yes, but… this seems to have nothing to do with it…”
This is what surprised me!
Enili frowned. She turned her head, carefully surveying Kailar who’d guided Priya back to her humanity, albeit a little. In her heart, she wondered if the child was now the monster. To cut off his own flesh without hesitation… she’d never heard of such a thing. Were it to recover, with great certainty was she sure the flesh would feel cold.
“Well, everything’s all good now. I seem to have healed well.” Kailar smiled gently. He turned around and faced Dinessa. “Let me see your wounds.”
“It doesn’t matter. Where’s Crea? Let her come out now.” Said Dinessa. She was not distressed regarding the evil spirit entwining her whole. If she herself was unable to, she was willing to awaken her other side for the sake of Crea, ready to fall from her death.
But there was no response.
No longer calm, Dinessa headed towards the direction she disappeared.
“Let’s go together.” His lips curved to a frown. He’d suddenly remembered the girl with Dinessa. Had something happened to her, then surely their whereabouts had been leaked.
Within the lush wilderness, a man veiled in cloak appeared. Wrapped in his arm lies a girl.
“Kekekeke….” The man shrouded under the covers of the cloak laughed wildly. “The flesh and blood of the strongest warrior, Dinessa… if planted in this girl’s body… would it not create another fighter just as strong, if not more? Kekekee…. It’s worth finding out… Red Leaf… it’s worthy of my attention.”
