Chapter 29: Golden Waves
Kailar stared at the golden-haired girl with a large sword on her back. His head shook, a soft chuckle escaping from his mouth whilst moving towards the tavern owner. “Have you any food? My companions and I are famished from a long journey.”
“Little boy, did you not hear us speak and suggest you leave this place quickly?” The short golden-haired girl pretended to threaten him viciously.
“╮(╯_╰)╭。” Kailar smiled and shrugged.
“Damn you. Well, I’ll let it be. I’ll be ignoring you. Do not say we did not warn you.” She turned her head, eyes blankly staring at the ceiling. It was unknown what she was thinking. Slowly, she grabbed the hilt of her sword and pulled it out. The aura of the sword surprised Kailar.
It was not only the shape of the sword, the engravings, symbols, and materials grabbed his sole attention.
A fierce echoing roar of swords clashing rung upstairs. Kailar knew this was not the sound Attolis and Gawain’s swords. The swing of their sword wasn’t too fast.
What he’d heard were swords swinging as fast as the eye could see and the other blocking it just as fast as well. It was truly an amazing sound. Their swordsmanship was on a whole different level.
Kailar closed his eyes and listened to the crisp sound of pure swordsmanship exchanging blows one after another. This was simply pure enjoyment.
He sat on the stairwell, eyes closed, listening in as if the sounds playing were a rhapsody. He’d find himself happily nodding off to the tune time to time.
“What a strange kid. What’s he doing?” The golden-haired woman snorted and looked at the kid doing who knows what.
She turned back around and shifted her attention. “It’s probably around here…”.
She lifted the large sword in hand. Like a large drill, the explosive force burst the wooden floor under her feet in a matter of moments. The force carried her away at the same time, no it’s more appropriate to say that she flew. The huge sword pierced the first floor with a single stroke than on to the second. No damage was inflicted on her due to the armor she wore.
Seeing the sudden sword exchanged, Kailar shook his head and went upstairs.
Paying no heed to the fight happening, he headed straight towards his room. The other two were awoken due to the ruckus. They quickly prepared themselves to fight at any moment.
“Come outside.”Kailar said when suddenly, the room next to him burst apart and let out a roaring sound like a few kilograms of C4 exploding all at once.
“Hurry, and come on out.” Kailar grabbed their hands and jumped out the window. Not far away, the two people faced off each other nervously.
One was a woman with golden waves of hair, her attitude the same the silver-haired lady with pointed ears and the short golden-haired girl. However, from the looks of it, their relationship was quite hostile.
“I want you to open your eyes wide and make sure you see every single thing in this battle between those people. It’s not always you see this type of battle.” Laila’s widened his eyes and shivered. Though he was not a soldier, his eagerness for the pursuit of knowledge was far greater than anyone else.
Could this be the world’s highest fighting power?
Silence fell, it was eerily quiet. Kailar watched those women and he felt the depths of his soul trembling.
“What do you see?” Kailar inquired Attolis and Gawain.
“The one with golden waves is at a disadvantage.” Gawain lamented. Despite the other party’s fighting prowess, he assured himself he’d be shredded pitifully were he to go up.
“No, it looks like that at first glance… but the golden wavy hair is only using one hand. Except for the first strike which she used both hands to test the strength of the opposing side, she’d been using only one hand this whole time.” Attolis meticulously examined the situation, her eyes fraught with fear and excitement.
Gawain meticulously observed the other two. His hairs stood on one end and sure enough, as Attolis mentioned, the golden wavy-haired woman had not used both her hands. At best, she was not taking the fight at heart, only fighting back passively.
Damn! How strong was this woman?!
Gawain watched the heated battle he felt an impending sense of defeat.
Are these people monsters?!
“Beautiful.” It was unknown if his praise referred to Attolis’ analysis of the battle or simply the skills and technique of the other party.
“Is it okay you’re not helping her?” He turned his head to the other woman with big swords. One was a lively golden-haired woman with short hair.
“Hmmph.” One harrumphed coldly, laughing bitterly in her heart.
Help? That child insisted on a tragic defeat. That woman is the number one Claymore out of all of us. Bull crap!
“Why?! Why?!” While clashing back and forth with the wavy-haired woman, the opposing foe questioned her painfully. “Our duty is to destroy the demons for the sake of humanity. We place our lives on the line for their safety, yet you their protector and guardian actually killed a human being! This is an unexpected blow to the trust we’ve worked hard to build with them. This is truly unforgivable! Why are you still shamelessly living on? I will kill you! I’m going to kill you!”
Kailar thought her naive. Though her battle prowess was shocking, she was but a child.
The two parties exchanged clashes one after another, often jumping from one street to the other and roof to roof. They endlessly exchanged blows after blows.
The clash between the two big swords emitted an ultrasonic like sound. The piercing noise caused the those on standby to cover their ear, yet they could not stop looking away. The battle they saw far surpassed the human limits and anything they’d ever seen that they’d forgotten to breathe.
The wavy-haired woman had decided the end of the battle. Her lips curved to a soft smile and held the sword top down.
Her eyes slowly shut. “Sorry, I can’t die now.” With a carefree smile on her face, she stepped back and a cut a deep slash on the stone bridge. Her sword suddenly pushed forward toward the other party, ready to slice her neck.
There’s the saying a newborn cannot defeat the old.
The short haired girl resigned herself to her fate. She could only close her eyes as she waited for the sword to travel to her.
It was only the sword was stopped by a wave of powerful attack.
The silver-haired woman with her sharp pointy ears made a move and stopped the blow in a thousandth of a second. Her companions had stopped breathing, their hearts dropped to the ground as they stood idly by.
Stepping on the pillars of the bridge, the short haired girl yelled and let out a bellowing roar as she lunged towards her foe.
Borrowing the laws of gravity and its pull, the wavy-haired woman blocked the oncoming comic attack. She sidestepped and kicked the little girl away.
Getting back to her knees, the girl rushed forwards once more.
She jumped high above, successfully avoiding the killing blow with intent to kill. She landed on the short-haired girl’s sword and quickly swung her sword fiercely.
The short haired girl gritted her teeth and charged forward, meeting her opponent’s sword. The clash had left a small wound on her face.
Her other companions circled around at a distance, cautiously watching.
It was four versus one.
