Chapter 28 - Not A Beauty
“What’s with the shy reaction?”
Agares seemed so composed and unperturbed by the sight that Isabel thought he did not like her reaction.
‘What do I do?’
Worried that she might have displeased him, Isabel quickly muttered an apology.
“It’s okay. I like it.”
Though he did not say that he liked her specifically, Isabel felt her heart skipped a beat nonetheless. She was glad their bodies were no longer touching. If their fronts had still been pressed together, he would have heard the thumping in her heart betraying her true feelings for him.
“Let’s get you up. It’s morning.”
Isabel rose and hugged her undergarments to her body. Seeing her hold what little was left of her slip surprised Agares.
“You’re going to wear that?” he asked.
“I ripped the underwear covering your pretty petal, though.”
Isabel gasped at his outrageous words. How could someone with such a graceful and noble face say something so obscene? She had heard him with her own ears, but she still found it hard to believe.
“P-please don’t say such words.”
“Are you shy?”
“A little bit.”
In all honesty, she was actually so embarrassed she could die, but she could not show her shame right now. She wanted to look like a veteran to him, lest he grew tired of her upon discovering her inexperience and unfamiliarity with men.
“Sorry. I’m not much of a gentleman in the first place.”
“But you are, Your Highness.”
“Thank you for thinking that way. Anyway, wouldn’t it be better to wash up and put on a new set of clothes rather than put that back on?”
Of course, Isabel would have preferred to do as he suggested, but this was not her home, so what could she do? Isabel blinked and looked at him, while Agares smiled bitterly.
“Don’t tell me you left like that the last time too?”
Isabel’s body flushed. Agares tapped her heated cheek with the tip of his finger. Feeling him touch her face with his ungloved hand was a strange feeling, but she welcomed it.
“I’ve prepared a new dress and other accessories for you. The maids also drew a bath for you so get yourself tended to and come out when you’re ready.”
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
“Then I shall take my leave, my lady.”
As soon as Agares stepped out of the room, the maids entered the chamber and brought with them an ivory porcelain tub and hot water. The four-clawed bathtub had a very elegant shape, and the edges were rimmed with gold, like an expensive and elegant teacup. Isabel had never seen such a pretty bathtub before. The ones that the Baroness or Lilith used were nowhere near as ornate.
“May I assist you, miss?” one of the maids said.
“No, it’s okay.”
The tub was only a few steps away from her, but the maids helped Isabel into a gown and walked her there anyway. She had not been aware of it when she was sitting on the bed, but now that she was standing, she realized that she had been absolutely depleted of energy. Her legs wobbled as she walked, draining her stamina even more.
“W-what do I do with the gown?”
“You may wear it while you step into the tub.”
What strength she had left immediately left Isabel the moment her leg touched the bathwater. Isabel almost dunked her face in the tub as she fell.
“Oh my goodness!”
Fortunately, the maids quickly caught her in their surprise and prevented her from injuring herself.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes, t-thank you.”
“You’re welcome. That was close. I’ll hold you now, so please try entering the tub again.”
“It’s my job.”
With the maid’s support, Isabel submerged her body beneath the warm waters of the beautiful tub. She handed her wet gown to the maids beside. The soaked garment must have been heavy, but the maids effortlessly placed the robe in a nearby basket.
Isabel leaned back in bliss. The water was hot and the porcelain was adequately warmed. As she laid her head on the edge of the tub, she found that a soft towel had been laid there in advance to support her neck and head. The water must have been infused with a nice, perfumed oil since it smelled of flowers. Petals floated atop the surface. Isabel cupped some water in her hands and sniffed it.
