Chapter 19 - “It is not you.”
Lilith and Allen walked to the front entrance of the mansion while she constantly complained to him throughout. The family’s carriage was waiting for them outside the front door. Isabel watched them until the front door closed behind them, then she walked through the back door and into the garden. Although the garden was not large, the grounds were well-kept and open, allowing her ample view of the moon.
He was like the moon: beautiful and bewitching but never within her reach.
However, like some miracle, he had reached her. That night had been a miracle—a dream—never to repeat. Isabel was in love with someone who was not even aware of her existence.
* * *
Isabel had attended all sorts of banquets in an effort to meet him. Since there was no way for a baron’s daughter such as herself to find out Grand Duke Agares’ schedule, she needed to attend banquets every day to find traces of him.
The chances of her actually meeting him were always low. He was a high-ranking member of the Imperial Family while she was only a baron’s daughter. She rarely received any formal invitations to banquets or salons, and even though she was not even considered part of the Lance family by their standards, she was grateful for her last name. With the baron’s name, she was able to enter banquets and salons that allowed entry to nobility of her rank.
Her dream had been to meet his gaze at least once, but against her wildest expectations, she had gone even further than that. She had kissed him, entwined her tongue with his, and he had entered her body and thrust into her countless times. It was absolutely incredible.
She had thought that she would have been satisfied with that one interaction, but her greed was not yet fulfilled. Isabel, who had never had anything that belonged to her and never felt possessive over anything, learned these sensations through Agares. Her feelings for him had only grown deeper.
Isabel had told herself that she would no longer make an effort to go to the banquets he was attending, but Isabel became increasingly nervous as time went by. Her stalking tendencies persisted like an old habit and made it impossible for her to withdraw from him. She donned her ball gown and tried her best to make herself presentable before leaving for the banquet.
Honestly, there was not much she needed to do by way of readying herself. She did not have a maid assigned to her, so there was no one to fix her hair or arrange her dress. Even though she was a wealthy baron’s daughter, her wardrobe was extremely limited, and barely had any jewelry or accessories.
Other noble ladies would have been so ashamed to attend the banquet with such sparse and modest attire; however, in her desire to see him, Isabel always dressed the best she could and attended the banquets anyway. In spite of her situation, she was a woman, too, and wanted to do her best to look pretty even knowing that she would never catch Agares’ attention normally. Although she couldn’t compare to the other noble ladies, she ensured that she would not be entangled in other rumors by maintaining her appearance and hiding inconspicuously between the walls.
Isabel suddenly grew more and more nervous, needing to see him. In her anxiousness, she had arrived at the banquet early and hid in the space between a pillar and a wall as she awaited his entrance. She did not know how much time had passed since she had been there, anxiously waiting. After some time, the Grand Duke’s arrival was announced.
He was beautiful today, too. His long, blonde hair was neatly tied in a ponytail, and a slight smile graced his gorgeous face. A perfect suit covered his beautiful body. She now knew how that body looked under the suit.
His alabaster figure was composed of tight muscles, from his symmetrical pectoral muscles to the finely embedded muscles in his abdomen and sides. His slender waist and toned thighs—she could imagine all of him. Even the secret parts only women who had slept with him would know, she could see him in her mind.
While Isabel thought about Agares, her cheeks burned red. She had not even drunk any alcohol yet but her entire body was already aflame. Her breath grew hotter. Again today, there was no woman beside him. Why was no one with him?
