Chapter 7 - The Omega Was Found But…
There was another moment of silence.
Heerak stared at the motionless man who sat opposite him. He too would have described the man across from him as an “average guy.” If the other man were an omega, Heerak would have been able to describe the smell of his pheromones at least, but that was impossible to do for a beta.
He knew it was rude, but he could not help looking the man up and down. And the more he observed him, he realized again and again that he was really drunk that night. It would have been nice if he could give an excuse, that this was a face that he would have wanted to f*ck, beta or not.
He was the epitome of average.
He had a very average face.
“I… I really did have s*x with you then.”
He muttered to himself, feeling empty.
Even though the moment it came out of his mouth, the other person could hear it.
There were many inferences embedded in what he said. With a beta. With such an average joe like you. How come? All his regret and restlessness were mixed in with that single utterance.
He did not know how the other man interpreted that utterance. However, it was easy to tell that Heerak’s mood was down just from the depressed tone of his voice.
“Yes, because you drank too much.”
All emotions left Heerak’s face. His usually bright face became much like that of the expressionless man sitting in front of him. He could not comprehend what he had just heard. Also, he was not sure if this was his misinterpretation, but Doseon sounded like he was trying to comfort Heerak. That made him feel more conflicted.
Now that he thought about it, even if he were talking in a rude tone, the other man was saying some absurd things. He could not get a grasp on Doseon’s intentions. Heerak asked dryly.
“What do you mean? Are you saying that I wouldn’t give a second glance at you if I weren’t so drunk?”
It was an irrefutable truth.
If he were not so intoxicated, there was no way he would have slept with a beta.
Even so, this current situation was very bizarre.
Putting Heerak’s questioning aside, the man who was consistently answering them without any sign of awkwardness was strange. He was not showing any signs of self-hate or upset. He looked like someone who was only being honest. There was no hesitation or sorrow.
“Executive Director, I should apologize to you.”
Doseon blurted out, catching Heerak off guard. Heerak’s eyes narrowed more than before. He kept being hit with an indescribable feeling.
“To me? Why?”
“It all happened so fast that I had no time to stop and think about it. But when I went back home, I thought that I should have refused you for your sake, and I regretted my decision. You were inebriated but ultimately you slept with someone like me. Nobody would feel good about that.”
What was with this guy?
Thoughts that Heerak couldn’t say out loud swam about in his head. He thought that at this point, he could probably call it a psychological attack.
“I have a question for you too, Executive Director.”
Heerak answered, pressing on his temples.
“Yes, go ahead.”
“Why did you look for me?”
“Oh… I didn’t think that I would sleep with a beta, and before I met you, I strongly believed that you were an omega. But I didn’t use contraceptives that night, you know? I didn’t have the chance to either. So…”
Doseon nodded as if he understood.
“I see. Then I really did something inexcusable to you.”
‘Is this where I should also apologize? Sorry for screwing you?’
Heerak pondered for a moment but drew a blank. Right now, his head felt like it was splitting, even more so than when he was hungover.
