Chapter 5 - The Omega Was Found But…
The message that Seokchan conveyed to Manager Moon went straight to all of the staff at Hodie. Thanks to that, the person was found after only half a day.
“You found him?”
When Seokchan called, Heerak was just entering the HW head office after being summoned by his father. The call came when he was right in front of the chairman’s office, so he took a step back. He did not think that this was a conversation that he should be having in his father’s face. And that was a good judgment call.
“That’s good. It was an employee after all?”
“That is correct.”
Heerak frowned, creating a furrow on his forehead.
“Tsk. I can’t believe I laid my hands on an employee. I should quit drinking.”
“I agree that that is also a problem.”
“Are you implying there’s another issue?”
“Yes,” Seokchan mumbled in a vague tone.
“I personally do not believe this is a big issue… No, rather, I think this may be for the best. But you might think differently, Executive Director.”
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’
Heerak could not understand his secretary. But he didn’t think that he would be able to come up with the answer by dwelling on it, so he did as Seokchan suggested and headed to Hodie.
Not long after, Heerak could come face to face with the omega in question. They were the only two people left in Hodie’s office.
Ten minutes passed since he arrived, but Heerak could not say a word. The first and last thing he said was “you can sit comfortably” to the man who stood up from his seat when Heerak entered.
He gawked at the “omega” who was sitting up straight on the couch. Then he started looking around the room like an anxious person. He circled the office desk and table, stopped at the window, and then approached the couch again.
All the while, the man in question never left his vision.
Heerak flipped through the thin stack of papers on the desk once more. They were documents that Seokchan shoved in his arms, saying that it would be good if he skimmed through them before going into the office.
His birthdate and other miscellaneous information did not enter his line of vision.
That word filled Heerak’s mind.
The moment he stepped foot into the office, Heerak was hit with a bad feeling. He could not feel any pheromones whatsoever from that man. Some omegas and alphas sprayed pheromone deodorizers regularly at work so he thought that this person could be one of those people. However, his premonition came true—unless these documents were lies.
“Let me ask you a few questions.”
Heerak finally said and sat across the man. The man lifted his head slightly and responded.
“So, you were a beta.”
The man himself confirmed it. Now this became a truth that he could not deny anymore.
Heerak wracked his brain. He didn’t need to jump to conclusions just yet.
“Then on Saturday night, uh…”
What was his name again?
As if he read his thoughts, the man replied to Heerak quietly.
“My name is Doseon Yoon.”
“Right. Mr. Yoon. Were you the one who helped me in my car?”
“And you also got in the car with me?”
“And then? Where did you get off?”
The instantaneous answers stopped. Instead, Doseon looked at Heerak as if to ask why he was asking those questions. Heerak did not say anything to that gaze.
After a moment of silence, Doseon opened his mouth.
“I got off at the same place as you, Director.”
“Where did we get off?”
A possibility swirled around Heerak’s mind.
‘Right, we could have gotten in the same car. In my drunken state, I could have generously offered a ride to my employee, who was worried and just getting off work. Thus, the person I slept with could have been a different person than the one I got in the car with.’
From the moment he saw the fuzzy image of the man on the surveillance footage, he was certain that that person was the omega he spent the night with. Now, he desperately wanted this certainty to just be in his imagination.
