Chapter 46 - Rumor of the Millers
“How long has it been since you started working as Mr. Pittman’s secretary?
“A little over two years.”
“Have you ever met any Extreme Alphas other than Mr. Pittman?”
Grayson Miller popped into my mind, but I shook my head. He was just a friend of Keith who showed up every now and then. He was probably outside the purpose of the question, as I had only quite literally “met” him.
“No,” I replied.
“Then it’s not surprising that you wouldn’t know. After all, it’s not common for the general public to know much about Extreme Alphas,” he muttered almost to himself. “As you must know, pheromones are the biggest weapons of Extreme Alphas. The exact mechanism of how it affects the brain to produce such results is still unknown, but in the end, it is a widely accepted theory that the pheromones reveal various characteristics: things like notably high intelligence, outstanding athletic abilities, stunning appearance, and exhibition of sociopathic tendencies. They’re all common dispositions of Extreme Alphas.”
Steward smiled and jokingly added another interesting fact.
“Have you heard about the results of a recent study? You know how Extreme Alphas have a strong immune system, right? So they hardly fall ill and recover quickly when they get injured. Moreover, they can detoxify medication and alcohol a few times faster than others. Even if they mix cocaine and ecstasy with wine, they won’t get drunk or high easily. All it does to them is decrease their motor capacity a little bit. Isn’t it interesting? All of that, thanks to their pheromones. Well, I suppose some rare medicines work on Extreme Alphas, but there really aren’t that many. Even then, they would have to take the meds with alcohol or go through a few other troublesome processes.”
“…It almost sounds as if the pheromones of Extreme Alphas are omnipotent.” Admittedly, I felt a little defeated.
When I murmured softly, Steward smiled mysteriously and moved his finger side to side. “No one in this world lives only with advantages. After all, God has a little guilty conscience too.”
Confused, I waited for his next words. Steward lightheartedly continued with a hint of amusement. “Having strong pheromones come with both great merits and risks. When they stack, they become poison.” He tapped on his head with his finger. “This will break.”
“Pardon me?” I opened my eyes wide at his unexpected comment.
Steward continued as if it were nothing big. “Going mad, or something along those lines. They lose their minds until they adequately use up their pheromones. That’s why they exert their pheromones in advance—to not end up like that. What would happen if their constant stacking amount combines with the number of pheromones during their rut? Their brain becomes pickled in pheromones.”
When I kept silent, Steward smiled. “Do you understand now? That is why Extreme Alphas are unable to give up on sex. Well, I also heard that they can spill out an extraordinary amount in a short period if they want. However, there is a limit to artificially letting them out.”
Unable to hide my frown, I said, “It just sounds like you’re trying to sugarcoat their promiscuity. After all, that doesn’t mean that they need to continuously cycle through different partners .”
Steward smiled and shrugged at my stern objection as if to ask what the big problem was.
I took a little bit of time before asking once again, “What happens when they go mad?”
Steward replied candidly, “Apparently they lose all sense in that moment.” He squinted his eyes and added, “They’d do a dog if that’s what’s in front of them.”
Hearing that, I almost dropped my cup. Was he being serious?
When I stared at him in shock, he leaned his chin into his hand and smiled. “They have no choice if there’s nobody else. In the end, they won’t remember it once they come to it anyway.”
I stared blankly at him in disbelief. How could he say something like that so nonchalantly? I opened my mouth, but the sound only managed to escape after a few seconds. “It’s just an ‘if’ kind of thing, right? A metaphor?”
I expected him to smile and tell me that it was a joke. However, he didn’t react as I expected. He seemed to ponder for a moment before smiling mysteriously. “This is just word of mouth, but there’s a rumor that one of the Miller brothers did a dog.”
My words were completely taken from me. As I blinked in doubt, he added indifferently. “A Rottweiler, if I remember correctly. Rut came and he couldn’t get ready in time, so he did a dog. A dog of that size would be suitable for the physique of Extreme Alphas. One wouldn’t think that they could do a Pomeranian. Their build, you know? The size difference is drastic, like a heavyweight boxer against a lightweight boxer.”
He laughed contentedly at his metaphor. However, I couldn’t bring myself to laugh.
It was rather detailed for it to just be a rumor. Who out of the brothers could it have been? I didn’t want to believe in this scandal, but a dark curiosity rose within me.
The six Miller siblings were famous for all being Extreme Alphas. Moreover, their father had been the owner of a large law firm. When he got into politics, he passed on the position to his first son. It was none other than Nathaniel Miller, the cold-blooded corporate lawyer, otherwise known as the devil of the legal industry. It was truly a family of celebrities, second to none in both wealth and bloodline. Thanks to this, everyone in the family was widely recognized by the public, save for just one person.
The first child, Nathaniel Miller, was most alike to their father. The second child, Grayson—a playboy who was constantly smiling. The third child, Chase Miller, the infamous mad dog. The fourth and fifth children were also Extreme Alphas but female. Since the rumor only concerned the Miller brothers, the daughters were out of the question.
