Chapter 24 - Bolted Door
I hesitated many times in front of my door before I was finally able to open it. I thought about calling a taxi, but I could not bear the thought of being in an enclosed space alone with a stranger. I was scared that the taxi driver might be an alpha. Left with no other choice, I ensured that the door was locked multiple times as I sat in the driver’s seat. Even then, I was very stressed on my way to work.
Despite being in a closed space, my mouth was dry from the feeling of anxiety, akin to having my bare body exposed. Although I had the air conditioning on the strongest settings, droplets of sweat had formed on my forehead by the time I arrived.
“Good morning, Yeonwoo.” Emma greeted me cheerfully as she walked into the office. She saw me clearing my desk, and she tilted her head in confusion. “What are you doing? Are you moving your desk?”
“No,” I replied like usual. “I’m packing my things. I resigned from the job.”
“Resigned?”
“Did you just say that you resigned?”
Another staff member, who was just arriving, shouted from behind Emma. I continued to empty the drawers with an expressionless face. I had already cleared my things from my office, which was connected to the CEO’s office. The only thing left for me to do was clear the secretary’s office of my things.
Since I had a separate office to myself, there wasn’t much that I had to take with me from here. I threw away everything I didn’t need and placed the other half of my things on the desk as I turned toward the other staff members.
“If you need anything from here, you can take it. Otherwise, please discard everything.”
“Yeonwoo!”
It wasn’t just Emma. The other staff member also stared at me in shock, not knowing what to do. Another secretary who was just about to walk in hesitated at the heavy atmosphere and closed the door. I ignored her and continued.
“With me gone, Emma, you’re the head of the team. I will pass on my duties to you. From now on, my office connected to the CEO’s office will be yours. You can move all of your things there as you will be using the desk. You can also buy anything you need and process it at the company’s expense. Since you probably know most things already, I’ll teach you the urgent tasks and the important tasks.”
“Yeonwoo, this is all so sudden!”
“This is Mr. Pittman’s schedule for this month. I sorted it using different colors. Those that say ‘adjustable’ can be adjusted after having Mr. Pittman confirm the change. If Mr. Pittman asks you to move an unadjustable schedule, control this color and this color and get it confirmed. Over here is the annual schedule. I’ve marked everything that has been confirmed, so all you need to do is write down all the events that get added in the future. Now for each part…”
I poured out the information like a machine gun while continuously flipping through various documents. Emma was busy frantically writing notes on everything, her face as pale as death. I quickly summarized the special notes about each department, monthly reports, and future projects. I didn’t forget to check in with her after every part, asking “Any questions?” or “Is there anything you didn’t understand?”
When I finally finished explaining and handed her the final document, Emma blankly gazed up at me.
“…Is that all?”
“Yes. If you don’t remember anything or need clarification, you can reach me by my personal number. I’ll explain it to you right away.” I wrapped up simply and picked up the briefcase that I had brought with me. “Thank you for everything. I wish everyone the best.”
“H-Have you already talked about it with Mr. Pittman?” The other staff member yelled out.
Her intention of trying to stop me was clear. Her desperate expression told me everything. I replied indifferently.
“I told him before the weekend about my resignation. Mr. Pittman knows.” I became a little embarrassed from their troubled gaze. I smiled bitterly and added, “I’m sorry about the sudden news. Some things came up. It was great working with you.”
“Are you… are you actually quitting, Yeonwoo? No chance of coming back?”
Emma stopped me in my tracks once again. Just as I was about to open the door and leave, I turned around and smiled a little.
“Maybe I’ll think about it if Mr. Pittman gives me five percent of P Entertainment’s stock shares.”
That was basically an announcement of no return. Everyone stared at each other, unable to say anything. I merely smiled and opened the door once again.
“Um, Yeonwoo… could you at least help with the morning report?”
