Chapter 17 - Jumble
Abigail became more impatient and frantically pointed at me. “He’s trying to seduce you. Since your rut is near, he must be trying to pounce at the opportunity! He can’t fool me!”
Abigail announced proudly, but Keith’s reaction remained unchanging. In fact, he mockingly twisted the corners of his lips.
“What the hell are you saying? Have you gone mad?”
“W-What?” Abigail flinched at Keith’s sharp remark.
Keith brusquely swept up his hair and spat, “That over there is just my secretary. Do I look like I’d sleep with a man? This is absurd.”
“B-But—” Abigail stuttered as she refuted, “But he’s an omega.”
Keith gritted his teeth and glared at her. “But he’s a man.”
Only then did Abigail become quiet as she searched for her next words. As she glanced around, Keith continued.
“It doesn’t matter if he’s an omega or what. Yeonwoo isn’t here for whatever you think he’s here for.”
He looked at me as if to confirm. I collected my addled thoughts and nodded.
“All the guests were scattered, so I was trying to see if they needed anything or if there were any—”
“Hear that?” Keith cut me off before I could even finish. “Now stop causing a commotion and come in. What kind of stupid situation did you get yourself into?”
He truly trusted me. Even if I had come here with a scheme in mind like Abigail had assumed, he wouldn’t have even imagined. The source of his trust was soon revealed.
“I never sleep with men, and Yeonwoo knows his place.”
My brain, despite still being pickled in pheromones, froze. I held my breath and stared at him. Keith, who was standing a few meters away, stared back at me.
“Don’t you?” he asked.
Abigail also held her breath and glanced at me, still with a doubtful look. I forced open my mouth.
“Yes,” I squeezed out my breath. “Of course.”
It would have been perfect if I had also smiled, but I had no energy for that. Just then, the elevator door opened behind me, and I heard the rattling of a cart. A staff member had come up with Abigail’s champagne. Abigail’s attitude did a one-eighty as soon as she saw the staff member.
“I’m sorry, darling. What have I done, misunderstanding something like that? Oh, please forgive me. I’ll do anything. You can even make me roll on the floor like a slave…”
Even if she refused, Keith would not hesitate to pummel her onto the floor, into a swamp, or whatever, if he wanted to. Giving him meaningless consent, Abigail clung onto Keith.
She smoothly wrapped her long arms around Keith’s neck. She jumped up and, this time, wrapped her two legs around Keith’s waist. I stood still and watched the two disappear into the guest suite. Even my eyes were fogging now, but I couldn’t tell if it was because of the pheromones or something else.
“Um, Yeonwoo… are you okay?”
I only realized that I was breathing very rapidly when the staff member expressed their concern.
“Yes, I-I’m okay.”
With the tension being gone, the crisis hit me like a truck. Feeling extremely dizzy, I stumbled. But I couldn’t fall down here. I gathered all my strength and held myself up.
“I-I’m going to go down, so give… Mr. Pittman his… drink, n-no, champagne, and… does he need a-anything else? I mean, ask him… if he needs—”
“I got it, Yeonwoo. Now go down. You look like you’re going to collapse.”
I barely managed to nod. The elevator seemed too far. The meds didn’t help at all. I shouldn’t have settled with just twice the usual amount. I should have taken three times, five times, no, ten times more than usual. I dragged my feet toward the elevator. My head was a mess.
All I could think of was just one thing—my inhibitors.
I had to head down right now and find my briefcase. I had to find the meds, take them, and let my body calm down.
‘While I do that, who… who should I ask to be in charge? Right, Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker. Briefcase. Where was it again? Where did I put it? Where the staff members store their things. The basement. Yes, the basement. What floor is the basement? Which floor am I on right now?’
I had somehow managed to press the button with my trembling hand. The elevator door closed, and the metallic box rattled before descending. I stood with my entire weight resting on the wall. I wanted to let myself fall, but I instinctively knew that I wouldn’t be able to get up if I did. I closed my eyes and waited for the elevator to arrive at the basement floor.
Ding-dong!
“Hahh…”
When the elevator finally signaled the arrival, I sighed in relief. All I had to do now was take my meds. I would ask Mr. Whitaker to take care of things until I calmed down…
The plan was simple. It was so simple, in fact, failure would be the stranger outcome.
However, I hadn’t realized that there was a huge trap. The elevator door slowly slid open, and what I saw in front of me was enough to freeze me on the spot.
There was a large pool in the basement. It was twice as large as the one on the deck, and it could also hold a lot more people.
‘…!’
When I noticed that most of the Extreme Alphas who had disappeared from the deck were gathered down here, their pheromones washed over my entire body.
