“His rut?” With an unknown expression, I asked back without thinking. Seeing how surprised I was, Grayson laughed out loud. He ran his long fingers through his luscious golden locks, pushing them back.
“Yeah, I think Keith’s cycle should be around now. Wasn’t his condition particularly bad this time? How was he?” He asked so knowingly that I wasn’t sure if he truly knew or if he was just taking a jab at me.
I mulled over it for a moment then said, “I didn’t know that an Extreme Alpha’s condition changed like a breeding omega.”
Grayson burst out laughing. Only after did I realize that I had taken Keith’s verbal attack to heart. Still snickering, Grayson said with a hint of reverence, “Goodness, don’t be so hard on yourself, Yeonwoo. An omega’s heat cycle is a blessing to alphas. Thank you, God! All praise omegas!” He spread his arms out to the side like he was reciting prayers in a cathedral.
I corrected him curtly, “I wasn’t being hard on myself. I only relayed the exact words Mr. Pittman used.”
Grayson shook his head in mild surprise. “Oh no. Why are all Extreme Alphas so arrogant and rude?”
Despite being an Extreme Alpha himself, Grayson was talking as if this had nothing to do with him. However, to me, he didn’t seem very different.
In any case, Grayson was stating the truth, so I stayed still. Smile still plastered on his face, he said, “It’s true that an alpha’s physical condition gets worse in more ways than one during their rut.”
Of course, that didn’t change the fact that he spewed some thoughtless nonsense. I merely stayed quiet and let it get buried under the conversation. Grayson added in an offhand manner. “Cumbersome things happen when you don’t extract your pheromones properly during rut.”
“I heard that one can lose their memories,” I replied tersely.
Grayson chuckled and said, “From what I heard, he didn’t do it with Naomi for quite a long time. I thought he would cause an accident by accumulating pheromones, but it was radio silent. Or maybe he picked up a partner at the last minute to solve it? I don’t think it would have been easy.”
“…Why’s that?” I asked without thinking and immediately regretted it.
Grayson narrowed his eyes teasingly. “You’ve been his secretary for how many years, yet you’ve never seen how Keith spends his rut.”
I retorted immediately, “Since he’s always lived promiscuously.”
“Hahahaha,” Grayson laughed, very delighted. What I said didn’t just apply to Keith. The man before me was also famous for having a profligate s*x life, even though he was laughing brightly as if he had nothing to do with it.
“That’s right–he spent his time like that, as you already know. But I have a feeling that this time was a bit special. It isn’t very often that Keith lets his pheromones accumulate.” He trailed off as if to ask for my agreement.
‘Just what did this man want to know?’ I thought to myself. I didn’t know if it was simply curiosity or he had something else in mind, but Grayson kept trying to scope my thoughts–almost as if he were waiting for me to confess to my deeds.
However, there was something else I wanted to hear from him. As far as I knew, Keith had continued to meet Naomi until the day that he told me to end the relationship. But if he amassed pheromones to the point that he had gaps in his memory, then it made sense that he hadn’t slept with her for a while, which aligned with Grayson’s story.
Why didn’t he sleep with Naomi, and how long had he not been so?
I wanted to know so bad, but interrogating him about it would make me seem needy and put me at an all-time low, which would be embarrassing on my end. I kept my mouth shut instead, which resulted in Grayson letting out a short whistle. “You’re no fun at all, Yeonwoo.”
