Chapter 5: Weakened Roar (1)
“…Teacher?” Roland asked nervously as he saw Yi Fan’s body freeze.
“I’m fine. Just that this body of mine is not feeling well.” Yi Fan smiled faintly. His face looked sickly pale and weak.
“Is this not the consequence of the Holy Grail? Had it not completely disappear? It seems even with the use of the Holy Grail’s power, changing the kingdom’s future proves itself to be rather difficult. To think the teacher will be like this because of that… “ Roland’s face grew dignified. He realized the reason why he saw Yi Fan lying on the ground earlier.
‘Magic? Did it mean that before I came over, this body had been devoured by magic and after that, I crossed through this world and took over this guy’s body?’
Though Yi Fan was unsure of the details surrounding the death of the previous owner’s body, Merlin, the guilt surging deep inside lightened by half realizing that the owner of the body had long died before he took it over.
‘But what about the Holy Grail? And what is this about changing the kingdom’s fate? Is my own crossing somehow related to the Holy Grail?’
The various events happening before Merlin’s death poured endlessly within the depths of his mind, causing his already chaotic brain to grow hazier.
Yi Fan coughed softly. “There is some impact from earlier but it shouldn’t cause too much of a problem. Roland, after the ceremony, you will be responsible for helping me call the candidates who will partake in the kingship ceremonial selection.”
Yi Fan directed all responsibilities to Roland. He knew nothing about the candidates partaking in the selection. If he were to host the selection by himself with his current state, there were bound to be flaws revealed.
Moreover, from beginning till now, he vaguely sensed several pairs of eyes staring at him from the crowds looking at him with such emotional complexity.
He’s not quite sure how to feel about it.
Roland naturally would not shirk from the responsibilities handed to him. He nodded and proudly walked over to Yi Fan’s side and raised his hands with kind intents to assist him and treat him like a sickly elder.
Yi Fan’s cheeks reddened due to Roland’s blunt action. “Ah, that’s quite alright… I’m not that sick.” Yi Fan waved his hand nonchalantly with means to dismiss him.
“Teacher is like this because of Camelot…” Roland wanted to say such words but was stopped long before he could speak. Roland sighed and walked to the podium with Yi Fan.
“Okay, everyone, you’ve all waited for a long time.” Yi Fan spoke in the manner befitting of an upright leader. He breathed, calming himself before speaking calmly, “Because I’m slightly sick today, the selection will begin a little bit earlier than planned. Let’s seize the time and start now.”
His words caused a ruckus among the crowds that it had extended towards the candidates participating in the selection. They had not expect such important occasion to happen once in a lifetime to start in such a manner. They thought it’d be more grandiose but considering Yi Fan’s identity, none thought it drastic.
Among the candidates, several of them cast a look of worry towards Yi Fan upon hearing of his current sickly state of being. He looked rather pale at the moment.
In addition to Arthuria’s worrying face, Yi Fan noticed a girl with long silver hair looking at him with a soft tender expression.
“Who is that?” Yo Fan whispered to himself.
Shortly after, he turned his gaze and looked towards Roland who immediately sensing the cue stepped forward.
“The first person to participate in the kingship selection is Sir Norn of Stow City,” Roland commanded whilst overlooking the sea of crowds.
The knight known by many as Sir Norn failed to respond. Once hearing that he’d be the first to participate in the selection after hearing Roland’s decree hesitated before proceeding towards the podium nervously.
“This… why am I the first one called?” The tall burly knight inquired, his voice croaking from utter nervousness and fright.
Roland’s mood darkened. The order in which these candidates were called was casually set by him. Naturally, someone of his caliber can’t provide a real genuine answer.
“There is no reason. You just happened to be the first one called.” The silence lasted for half a minute before reluctantly admitting his reasoning.
Norn’s lips curved. He found Roland’s answer unacceptable while suddenly losing all semblance of fear and nervousness.
“There’s no reason why I should be the first candidate to partake in the selection. I’m a knight for god’s sake! Wouldn’t it better for the other guys without status to go first?!” Norn bellowed angrily.
Norn twisted his body and pointed his fingers towards the candidates in tattered clothing. From a certain perspective, it looked like a giant bear easily dominating the squirrels under his feet into submission.
When looking at Norn’s reaction. This sort of selection where one was left unaware of the specific contents regarding the selection, the first one chosen would feel rather disadvantage and thus why Norn refused to accept such an outcome.
But just as the words left Norn’s mouth, it angered another person of prominent prestige. Yi Fan looked straight at him and immediately stepped forward. The tall burly man who roared angrily like a giant bear subconsciously retreated.
‘Are you so timid because you’re afraid of losing the rights to the throne?’
Yi Fan understood his line of thoughts. He shook his head quickly, a grim look adorning his face.
‘This man is not fit to be king.’
Yi Fan’s averted his gaze from Norn and turned towards the other candidates. He spoke in a voice where everyone could hear. “Next!”
