Chapter 23 - The Aftermath
When I held the Holy Sword, I saw Miltiades, driven by madness as he massacred both humans and monsters. Then I witnessed a strange new monster overtake him. I did not know if this was a vision of the future, or a mere illusion.
‘Anyways, I’m glad I arrived on time.’ I was able to save my dad thanks to Ludwig and the Holy Sword. As soon as I stepped into this place, I realized what was about to take place here. ‘This is where Miltiades almost lost his eye.’ It was the place where he had received a scar on his face.
Thankfully, I saved him so perfectly that he didn’t get injured at all. He had lost his ‘future sexy adult’ vibe, but his beauty was intact. That was the amazing thing about ‘give and take!’
“It looks like we’ve cleaned up most of the beasts in the vicinity.”
“Sir Ludwig, you’re amazing. It’s definitely difficult for beasts to go against paladins.”
“Ah, it’s nothing. In fact, it’s more amazing for Sir Callian to go against them without a vow in place.”
While Callian and Ludwig fawned over each other, I finished writing my letter with the help of Priest Aiden. The letter would be sent to the Vatican.
“It’ll take about a week for a response.”
“Wow, how amazing!”
The message spell Priest Aiden taught me was great. It could send messages to a person no matter how far they were from the sender.
“Uncle, you can’t use this magic?”
“It looks simple, but it requires a lot of divinity.”
“Really?” It looked really easy. All you had to do was write a letter, fold it into an animal or bird shape, and send it. But apparently, it was a difficult spell.
“Saintess, you have no problem with divinity, so you need to work on learning the alphabet.”
I bleakly laughed at his words. “Uncle, Uncle.”
Priest Aiden turned toward me. I carefully looked at our surroundings and asked him, “Can beasts talk?”
“Can they… talk?”
“Yeah.”
Priest Aiden’s expression darkened as he saw me nod. “I’ve never heard of something like that.”
“Really?”
“Beasts are scraps of evil. They don’t have a body, so they can’t talk.”
“That’s what I thought.” ‘So what was that voice I heard? They told me to… save them.’
When Ludwig had slashed the huge beast with the Holy Sword, I had heard the beast yell some words. However, when I asked Ludwig later, he said he hadn’t heard anything like that. All he had heard was its howl.
‘Am I the only one who heard it?’ It was the first time I had to deal with something like this. The novel hadn’t mentioned it either. So, I could only assume that it wasn’t Priscilla’s power that caused this event. “What is it?”
I left Priest Aiden at the cathedral and went to Luciana. “Luci, how’s Daddy?”
“Thankfully, he said he’s doing fine.” Whatever she saw on my face made Luciana ask me, “Would you like to see him for yourself?”
“Yes!” I needed to check with my own eyes if he was fine. I held Luciana’s hand and walked toward Miltiades’s room.
As soon as he saw me, the knight standing guard bowed and moved over. I looked inside the room from the door gap. Miltiades was leaning on the bed, and he saw me. “Can I come inside?”
Miltiades was leaning on the door frame and laughed at me. “Come here.”
I ran in. The room didn’t have a chair where I could sit. But I could still sit somewhere! I climbed up the bed and sat next to Miltiades. “Daddy, are you okay?” I carefully put my hand on his forehead. He didn’t have a fever.
“No, it hurts.”
“It hurts? Where?” I was so surprised that my eyes widened. Miltiades pointed to his arm expressionlessly.
“Your arm! When did you injure it?” I grabbed his arm. It looked fine from the outside. ‘Did he get an internal injury while fighting the beast?’
“I’ll fix it up right away.” ‘How did the healing prayer go? First, I need to calm down.’
