Chapter 14 - Where's Daddy?
“Ah!” Thankfully, it didn’t take long to find him. I walked to him very carefully and silently. He was taking a nap. “Wow, it’s the first time I’ve seen him sleeping….”
He was leaning against the sofa. It seemed like he had fallen asleep while reading. I stared at his face and forgot about the emergency I was in.
“But what was he doing?” I saw a number of books stacked on his seat. “What books are these?”
‘The First Light of the World,’ ‘The Saintess,’ and ‘The History of the Vios Empire.’ They were mostly history books. A lot of them pertained to the saintess and sacred events.
“Why was he reading this?”
‘Does this have something to do with names?’
“Is it a hobby?”
I knew Miltiades didn’t have a hobby of reading books. He didn’t have the time after becoming emperor.
There were some papers scattered next to the books. And many names were written down on them. One of them popped out.
‘Priscilla? Is he going to give me that name? I think I’m going to be Priscilla,’ I looked at his sleeping face while thinking to myself. ‘The main character is the main character.’
And then I made eye contact with a pair of golden eyes. They blinked. I grinned when he wordlessly made a face.
“Daddy, good morning!”
He didn’t respond to me. I was a bit upset. When I pouted, he sighed and stopped frowning.
“Am I dreaming…”
“It’s not a dream.” I threw myself into his arms to wake him up. “I’m right here!”
“…”
After blinking a few more times, he finally came back to his senses. Then, he looked at me again.
I went right into the heart of the matter.
“Daddy, my name! Name! Name!”
‘I didn’t forget!’
“…You’re here to rush me,” he sighed and lay down on the sofa again.
I held onto him and complained, “Daddy, there’s a problem! Grandpa Pope came to pressure me! If we don’t start the ceremony tomorrow, then I’ll have to go to the Northern Empire by myself after three months.”
I was in a hurry, but Miltiades closed his eyes and didn’t move.
‘Is he going to sleep? Is he?’
“Daddy! Daddy?! Daddy!” I shook him, but he didn’t react. “Daddy! Daddy?”
“I’m listening.”
“Did you choose a name?! My name?!”
“Yeah.”
“Really?!” I thought he was going to say no. If he had thought of Priscilla, then of course, he was done!
I was smiling widely when Miltiades opened one eye and answered, “Bring over any paper you want.”
While he got up, I looked at the pile of papers and chose the cleanest one. The firm fingers holding the smooth, dark, obsidian-like fountain pen were beautiful.
‘My Mil’s fingers are handsome too!’
Miltiades placed the fountain pen on the white paper. His movements flowed like water as letters formed on the white paper in graceful handwriting.
‘Amelia. It isn’t Priscilla?’
I stared at the letters in shock when Miltiades looked at me.
“How is it?” He stared at me while I kept blinking and asked in a low voice, “Do you not like it?”
I focused after hearing the tone of his voice. “No, no no no! I love it so much. Is this really my name?”
“Only if you like it.”
“Of course I do!” I had no reason to hate it.
Miltiades smirked when he saw me smile.
I didn’t know when they arrived, but Callian and Luciana came to where we were. Callian said in a smug voice, “Saintess, His Majesty stayed up for a few nights just to find a suitable name for you.”
“Oh, really?!”
“Shut up, Callian.”
Miltiades glared at Callian in embarrassment, but I was touched.
‘A name my favorite character gave to me.’ I thought it was going to be Priscilla, but I was surprised to see a new name I didn’t expect. It was a very strange feeling. ‘This is really my name.’
I knew how much Miltiades hated leaving part of himself onto others. Yet he spent hours agonizing over which name to give me, and it made everything all the more precious.
“Daddy, thank you.” Miltiades smiled when he saw how preciously I treated the paper containing my name. I looked at him and grinned, “Daddy, come and watch my ceremony tomorrow.”
“Is it okay if I watch?”
I nodded. “Because you’re my daddy!”
Usually, regular people weren’t allowed to watch it, but I was going to throw a tantrum.
Miltiades looked at me with a strange expression and nodded.
