Chapter 1 - Things That Happen in Life 

As you live, you experience these days too.

What are the chances you’ll meet your favorite character while walking down the street? What are the chances you’ll coincidentally meet them when they don’t live in the same country or even the same world as you? 

‘I thought true fans were never lucky.’

I thought the phrase ‘true fans were never lucky’ was popular because many diehard fans were never able to meet their favorite idol or characters, but I was wrong.

I shook in excitement when I saw my favorite character breathing and talking in front of me.

‘That’s my favorite character. He’s my favorite character. I see my favorite character!’

I pushed down my feelings of awe and stared at the man’s face. The face I daydreamed about every day was right in front of me. My favorite character, who I could only think about in words, was breathing, walking, and talking right there!

His eyes were so beautiful that I got goosebumps. However, at the same time, I felt that they would cut me if I bothered him. His glass-like eyes that were looking at me were terrifying and emotionless. Their golden shine looked like the light of the stars in the night sky. They were a different kind of beauty that enchanted me.

‘You never said he was this beautiful, Ms. Writer!’

“Who are you?”

He talked to me.

‘Oh, even his voice is deep and nice!’ It was even better than I had imagined. I could tell that he was agitated when I was about to cry.

He was reluctant to see me cry. How was he so handsome? 

I would never get tired of looking at him. I liked him more when he got a bit older, but I loved every part of him!

“I asked who you are.” 

When I didn’t give him a response, his eyebrows furrowed. I almost stopped breathing because he still looked so dashing.

‘This won’t do.’ I wanted to calm down but I didn’t think I could!

“Daddy!”

I started running toward him.

He had never loved anyone and was never loved by anyone; he was the most pitiful man in this world.

And he was the man I loved the most.

I could feel the man, who was sitting languidly, had started to stiffen. He was so surprised I felt him take a breath.

“Daddy!”

“…Who are you calling your father?” he asked me another question in an absurd voice. It was pretty absurd because he was single. 

I brightly smiled and made eye contact with him. I could feel the danger behind his golden eyes, but they only made me happy.

“Hehe! Daddy!”

When I pulled him into a hug, he incredulously looked at me. ‘It doesn’t matter if you look at me like that. I am never going to give up.’

“Daddy~!”

He eventually gave up on trying to get me off him.

I stared at him as he deeply sighed. Even if I died right now, I’d have no regrets. 

This was the first meeting between me and my favorite character that was my soon-to-be father and villain.

A lot of incomprehensible things happen in life.

Yesterday, my phone broke, and today, I woke up as a six-year-old. 

“It’s better to have a broken phone than to wake up as a six-year-old.”

I was currently experiencing the most absurd experience of my life.

I put my face on the window frame to look at the scenery. It looked a bit dumb, but I had no choice because of my short stature. 

The scenery outside the window was totally different than the one I was used to seeing.

“Of course, it’s different! This is a totally different world!”

A broad plain and blue skies entered my vision. I could see a village in the distance and a small number of people walking along the roads. 

There weren’t any skyscrapers, cars, or crowds of people. 

As I looked at the unfamiliar view in front of me, I felt both relief and despair at the fact that this wasn’t a dream.

“It’s already been a month! It doesn’t make sense that I would have the same dream for a whole month.”

After looking at the strange scenery, I took my face off the window frame. Then, I looked down at my small hand.

At first, I was confused.

I didn’t understand the situation, and it took me a long time to stop crying and making a fuss about going back. In all this, there was one thing that had brought me back to my senses.

“Miltiades!”

I had seen my favorite character.

This situation was like a movie set or the ‘Truman Show,’ where I was trying to run away from my situation and met my favorite character. It was a gift from God.

“God granted my wish!”

‘I’m glad I prayed every day before sleeping.’

“A world with my favorite character.”

There was only one thing that had happened.

I fell into the world of a novel, and I was the main character of the novel.

Usually, someone would be excited to be the main character.

Unfortunately, the author of this novel, ‘A Lightless Mirror,’ wanted to write a realistic fantasy. Therefore, they made the main character go through many struggles.

“Ugh.”

‘To think that the main character would go through so much!’

“But it’s okay.”

‘My favorite character lives here.’

“Light and salt…”

‘I’ll never have this kind of love again.’

It was the first time I ran to the computer for an update or waited for the next chapter for a web novel. I also looked up the writer’s social media for the first time. I was so happy I could meet my favorite character again that I started crying. 

“Saintess! You can’t go there like this!”

A familiar voice broke me out of my thoughts.

Luciana shouted as she ran over to me and took me away from the window.

The maid that had been assigned to take care of me, Luciana, strictly looked at me. It was a prickling sensation, but I brightly smiled at her.

“Hehe!”

“…Your smiles don’t work on me.”

‘Ah, it worked until yesterday. To think she’d win over my cuteness, how strong!’

After seeing my astounded face, Luciana steeled herself, stared at me, and said, “You can’t look out the window in that dangerous position, alright?”

I had no other choice but to nod at her words.

“You know that today is an important day, right?”

“Of course.”

“Now, sit here. I’ll help you prepare.”

I went over and sat down after listening to her. She lay down a priest’s uniform with gold embroidery in the pattern of the Vios Empire. 

This was an outfit only priests could wear.

“You will be wearing this.”

“Okay.”

While Luciana helped me wear the clothes, I started thinking about the most pressing problem.

‘I need to survive.’

The main character of this novel and the person I would become, Priscilla, would die after other people took advantage of her being too kind.

‘I can’t live like that.’

I was sorry to the author of the web novel, but I didn’t want to live Priscilla’s life.

I didn’t want to experience a dog’s death.

So I had to find a safe place to live.

‘I need to choose a good house to be adopted into!’

And today was the day I decided my fate.

“It’s finally today…”

The decisive day had arrived.

After getting directions from Luciana, I arrived at the temple, where the pope and the twelve elders were sitting down.

When I entered, everyone stood up and bowed to me.

“Welcome, saintess.”

As someone from the present, it was difficult for me to adjust to the old men with white hairs bowing to me. 

After awkwardly nodding a few times, the elders smiled.

“You’re adorable today too.”

“It’ll be difficult to let her go.”

“Laws are laws. There’s nothing we can do about it.”

“I hope the saintess is always blessed.”

I passed by the elders giving their blessings and stood in front of the Pope. Pope Raphael was also very old. 

“Welcome, saintess.”

“Yes, Your Holiness.”

The pope smiled at me, then laughed. “Do you know what today is?”

“Yes!”

Of course, I knew. I was choosing my family today. Every saintess had to leave the temple and travel the world. So they had to choose a family to take care of them until they became adults…

‘It’s not even a random box, but I have to choose my home based on luck.’

In the original novel, Priscilla had chosen the wrong family and ruined her life. That meant I had to choose a good family to avoid her bad luck.

What an unfortunate situation

‘I can never choose the family Priscilla did.’

I shivered while thinking of the family because of whom, Priscilla struggled so much.

Traditionally, saintesses chose families who fit the criteria set by the temple. It was a complicated process, so it was important to be as careful as possible.

“I’m glad you look happy, saintess.”

“Yes. I’m really happy!”

The elders were surprised to hear my voice after a long time as I nodded.

“It looks like you really are excited.”

“To think you’re talking.”

“It’s the first time I have heard your voice.”

I didn’t talk for a while because when I did, I talked so well that some people became suspicious of my actual age. Apparently, some elders had never heard me speak before today.

I left the surprised elders and turned back to the pope. I looked at the priest and smiled. 

“Now, shall we get started?”

After I nodded at the priest’s question, the candidates started coming into the temple. I didn’t know the faces, but I could tell the characteristics of each person.

‘It’s not that person.’

Soon, the person I was waiting for walked into the temple.

“Saintess!”

I couldn’t hear the voices of the shocked elders who were calling me. I didn’t care about what they were saying or how they looked at me.

I made my decision as soon as I saw him.

“Daddy!”

I ran into Miltiades’ arms.

I didn’t know if he recognized me, but Miltiades frowned. It looked like he wanted to say something.

So, I interrupted him.

“I’m adopting you as my dad!”

‘I can’t choose my family with a random box!’

“Hey, become my dad!”

‘I’m putting my all into stanning! I’m certain. This will work! I’m putting my whole fortune into this stock!’
