Chapter 41 - Dream

But the cry didn’t come out. Before she could make a sound, cold water covered her entire body and drove her out of her body.

‘Oh, I see. this is a dream,’ Laila realized. She had been confused about whether this was a memory from before or after her transmigration. She mentioned ‘Sire’, so it must be something from not too long ago.

That was just a few days ago. Even though Laila had decided to distance herself from them, it still hurt to be treated coldly, and she deflated upon hearing their loathsome words because she loved them.

“…”

She opened her eyes slowly. Laila sensed the unfamiliar atmosphere. This was not her dwelling. What followed was the absence of pain.

‘Did I take the painkillers?’

Always, in the morning, she was overwhelmed by tremendous pain. It was a pain that she never got used to. She only had a little leeway, just enough to swallow her pills quickly without expressing it. But now, she was not feeling that pain anymore.

‘Am I still dreaming?’

Laila blinked slowly, then moved her hands slightly and felt the softness of the fabric. It felt warm, like she was in an embrace.

‘It feels like I’m being hugged…’

“…!”

Laila’s eyes flew open in surprise. She wasn’t actually being hugged, but it was still something just as shocking.

Her eyes had fallen on the Grand Duke, who was sitting in a chair right next to her with his eyes closed. Laila’s eyes and mouth were wide open.

“…”

But she didn’t make a sound. Laila just barely managed to swallow her cries before they leaked out. She sat up very carefully, trying not to make a sound.

She seemed to have taken a long time. She got up slowly and leaned her body against the side of the bed and looked at her surroundings carefully.

It was an unbelievable situation. The room and the bed were so nice that it was hard for Laila to even look at them. So, she fixed her gaze on the side where it felt most comfortable.

“That looks uncomfortable,” she blurted, then quickly covered her mouth with both hands. Her gaze was still fixed on Venio.

After holding her breath for a moment, Laila gradually relaxed when she was convinced that Venio had not woken up. She didn’t notice that Venio’s breathing had changed.

‘He’s sleeping without a blanket.’

Perhaps this dazzlingly spacious and wonderful room was Venio’s. Even if it wasn’t, he was sleeping here, and even allowed her to take the bed.

“Ah…”

She came to a realization that had escaped her as she continued to study his uncomfortable posture. Laila tilted her head with her wide eyes full of curiosity.

Come to think of it, she wondered why she was the only one lying on the bed.

‘Strange.’

He had probably stayed by her bedside all night. The thought made Laila’s eyes well up with tears. She gripped her trembling hands together and held her breath for a moment.

She was actually relieved when she saw him. When she opened her eyes, she didn’t know that having someone next to her would be so reassuring. She glanced at him again and her face took on a determined expression.

‘Blanket.’

She wanted Venio to sleep comfortably. However, she felt she might wake him up if she touched him. Laila’s lips pursed into a firm line and she leaned over with determination.

The blanket that was covering her must be the best in the world. It was so light and cozy, and the moment she held it tightly in her arms, Laila trembled like a cat.

“…”

She wanted to rub her face against it a little. But she restrained her urge and edged towards him on her knees.

With a fluttering sound, a down blanket wrapped around Venio’s shoulders and covered his entire body. Laila’s eyes gleamed softly.

‘He looks happy.’

‘Very much so.’

Thomas and Theodore, who were holding their breaths in front of the door, watched the whole scene unfold with odd expressions. Gideon joined them without bothering to make his arrival unnoticed and was just about to yawn when Thomas jabbed him in his side.

Laila had been looking around the room from the inner facing side of the bed, so she hadn’t noticed Thomas and Theodore and thought she and Venio were the only ones there.
