Chapter 15: Not Anymore
In the bustling city of reinforced concrete, people work hard to survive.
Some people have a family. They worked hard to take care of their relatives and make their family happier. That was a dream.
Some people don’t have a family. They left their families and worked hard just to have a warm home one day. That was hope.
There were also people who couldn’t return to their families. Their home had been destroyed, so they had to wander around the world without dreams or hopes. This was despair.
Liu Yanbo once had a family, a loving mother, a strict father, a kind neighbor, and a childhood friend.
Thoughts poured in like a flood. Liu Yanbo had never been so desperate. He lost consciousness.
The police came quickly, along with an ambulance. In the face of such a messy scene, they didn’t hesitate. The officers moved the crowd and arrested the ones involved, as well as took the injured to the ambulance. They handled it very well.
Pan Yuyi was a little depressed. It had been only one day since she took office as head of the divisional detachment, and “something big” had already happened.
A lieutenant colonel, five major officers, a famous entrepreneur in the city, and a young man of an influential family who was in the hospital.
This wasn’t a common fight. It was a fight between gods, and she was a mortal.
The new officer’s, Pan Yuyi’s, three flames1“Three flames” is a Chinese idiom about the several influential things a new official must do to show his ability and courage.* were extinguished. Just now, she was severely scolded by the district director.
The law was fair, but it was obviously difficult for Officer Pan Yuyi to let a division chief enforce the law impartially in this matter, so she could only wait for the Secretary’s notice.
The wait was two hours.
Officer Pan Yuyi was very hungry and her belly ached. Finally, the notice came in three words.
“Let them go!”
Officer Pan Yuyi hung up the phone, heaved a sigh of relief, and picked up an identification report from her desk. “Liu Yanbo.”
This ordinary taxi driver only had three years’ worth of files. There were no records of him before that. It was a blank, as if he appeared out of thin air. Such a person usually went unnoticed, but Liu Yanbo had now attracted the attention of Officer Pan Yuyi.
There was no hesitation in arresting them, nor delay in releasing them. Officer Pan Yuyi not only released Bai Bin from the detention room but also called back all the police officers who were still guarding the hospital. In other words, the fight had nothing to do with her.
Shangguan Qingmeng stood outside the police station, waiting for Yin Hanruo to come out. When she did, Qingmeng smiled and said, “Little girl, your man hits pretty hard. I went to the hospital. Liu Fei can’t get out of bed for at least three months.”
Yin Hanruo glared at Shangguan Qingmeng and motioned her not to say anything. “It wasn’t him.”
“If it wasn’t him, then who?”
Shangguan Qingmeng was somewhat surprised. After all, when she went to the hospital, she saw Mrs. Huang taking care of Liu Yanbo in the ward. She thought it was the result of both sides losing.
Yin Hanruo turned to the entrance of the police station and gazed at Bai Bin and his party. “It was his friend, I don’t know him.”
Shangguan Qingmeng was like a curious baby at the moment. Following Yin Hanruo’s line of sight, she asked, “Them?”
Yin Hanruo nodded and said with some dissatisfaction, “When did you become so nosy?”
“Because I’m very interested in your man now!”
Shangguan Qingmeng smiled and spoke with laughter.
Yin Hanruo didn’t speak anymore. She wanted to stay away from the goddess that was Shangguan Qingmeng, as there were many people looking at them pervertedly.
The two shook hands and nodded.
Bai Bin withdrew his hand and asked straightforwardly: “Miss Yin, what is your relationship with young sir Bo?”
“We are…” Yin Hanruo wanted to say that they were ordinary friends, but at that moment, she hesitated. She thought of Liu Yanbo’s bleak smile before he fainted and his tone of despair.
Worthless orphan? Sorry, but not anymore!
With an answer in her heart, Yin Hanruo softly said, looking a bit embarrassed, “We’re married.”
Husband and wife?
Bai Bin was shocked by this answer.
Before asking, Bai Bin had made many guesses, the most daring one was of her being his girlfriend. However, it was fleeting and rejected as soon as it appeared.
Although Liu Yanbo was the person he cared about the most in the world, he would never think that Liu Yanbo was worthy of Yin Hanruo. One was as beautiful as a fairy, and the other was as ordinary as a stump of wood.
“Really?” Bai Bin looked stunned.
Yin Hanruo nodded and replied resolutely: “Really!”
“Okay! Okay! Okay!” Bai Bin latently said, three times in a row. His initial surprise was replaced by joy and even a little ecstasy.
No one in the world knew Liu Yanbo better than Bai Bin, because they had the same pain and memories in their hearts.
Bai Bin also knew that, although what they lost was the same, Liu Yanbo’s loss was much more painful than his. He was only a listener, and Liu Yanbo was a witness. The Garden of Eden became a hell on earth.
Marriage does not mean the end of pain and suffering but at least it means the beginning of hope.
“How long have you been married? When do you plan to have children?”
“It’s been less than a week, and we are… not planning on having children for the time being.” Yin Hanruo didn’t expect Bai Bin’s reaction and was a little embarrassed.
“Well, you’re still young, so you can take it slow. After all, it hasn’t been long since you got married, and it’s good to build a sense of family first.”
Bai Bin smiled, then added: “Sister, young sir Bo has been reserved ever since he was a child, and very stubborn. He likes to keep everything in his heart, and he often needs someone to confide in him. If he does something bad, I hope you won’t be angry and tolerate him a little more. Of course, if he dares to bully you, you can tell this brother, and I will tie him up in front of you and make him admit his mistakes.”
Bai Bin was talking like an endlessly nagging granny with a smile on his face.
Now it was Yin Hanruo’s turn to be confused. She never thought that Bai Bin had such a side to him, so different from the cruelty and madness of when he was beating Liu Fei.
Yin Hanruo didn’t say anything. Who knew what else he was going to nag about? She had no choice but to laugh with him and nod. “Mm-hmm”.
“I mean, it’s not very good to keep talking at the entrance of the police station, is it? Besides, isn’t Liu Yanbo at the hospital right now?”
Aware of Yin Hanruo’s embarrassment, Shangguan Qingmeng, who knew the whole story, hurriedly came to the rescue.
“Look at me, I got so happy I forgot that kid! You’re right!”
With a slap on the forehead, Bai Bin quickly reached out and gestured: “Let’s go! Let’s go! To the hospital!”
“Captain, it looks like your Alzheimer’s is getting worse!”
As night came, the cheerful laughter made the steel city lights seem warmer and more charming.
