Chapter 10.1: Martyrdom
In the army, time meant life. If one was a minute late, a second late, you’d be severely punished. Bai Yu did not care for the other departments being on time, but in the security department, all the rules that she set had to be strictly enforced by the security guards; otherwise, it would be a violation of discipline and a provocation of her authority.
In the security department, no one dared to provoke the authority of Boss Bai!
Xiao Zheng was the first!
And she swore that he would be the last one!
Facing Bai Yu’s questions, Tang Ming’s body shrunk. He bowed his head and explained, “Boss Bai, you’ve misunderstood. I’m afraid Xiao Zheng won’t be able to find the exact location of the gym, so I waited for him at the door…”
“Since you’re so enthusiastic, why don’t you help him find another job?” Bai Yu crossed her arms behind her back and said with a fierce look in her eyes.
“I was wrong…” Tang Ming drooped his head and said dejectedly.
“Go to work.” Bai Yu coldly interrupted Tang Ming’s words.
“Yes, Boss Bai!” Tang Ming turned around and left, fearing that he would be caught in the crossfire. However, before leaving, he didn’t forget to give Xiao Zheng a meaningful glance.
The latter understood and nodded without leaving a trace.
Without waiting for Tang Ming to leave, Xiao Zheng immediately explained, “Boss Bai, there’s a reason I’m late. I was too excited to sleep last night because of the limitless prospect of this job. At seven o’clock in the morning, when I was ready to leave for work, a woman near my home asked me to go to Long Street and buy her a pint of soup dumplings. I was so preoccupied with my work that I declined her on the spot and went straight to the bus station. As a result, I bumped into a lame old lady in her seventies. The old lady’s eyes did not look too good. Not only did she cross the road, she even almost got hit by a car. I tried to help her out of good intentions, but before I could get close, she fell to the ground with an “Ouch!” and grabbed my leg, screaming for help. At that time, I was shocked. My gut instinct told me that I had to help her, so I immediately called the police. She’s no longer in danger. However, it also delayed me coming here on time. To get to the company earlier, I didn’t even have breakfast… ”
As Bai Yu listened to Xiao Zheng’s extravagant explanation, her beautiful but icy eyes lit up. She clapped her hands and said, “Being a security guard is truly too much for you.”
“In my opinion, no matter what position you are in, as long as you work hard, you will be able to shine with enthusiasm and make an outstanding contribution to New Arcana.” Xiao Zheng spoke in a righteous tone. He looked very much like the head of the marketing department.
“You misunderstand…” Bai Yu replied indifferently. “What I want to tell you is that the security department doesn’t welcome such behavior. You’d better think of something else. ”
“What!?” Xiao Zheng’s expression changed drastically as he took two steps forward and questioned. “Just because I helped a grandma across the street, you’re going to fire me? I refuse to accept this!”
“I don’t care what you do during your break, but as long as it affects your job, I have reason a fire you!” Bai Yu said with an expressionless face.
“You’re prejudiced against me!” Xiao Zheng said resentfully. In his heart, however, he was perturbed.
After returning to his hometown for a few months, his savings had already been used up. His long and idle life made him even more anxious. A strong sense of emptiness invaded his fragile heart all the time. Every time he woke up at night, he would feel a strong sense of frustration. He was extremely depressed.
In the long run, Xiao Zheng believed that sooner or later, he would suffer from terrible depression. Finding a proper job was too important for him.
Now that he finally got an ideal job, Xiao Zheng couldn’t just give up no matter what.
