Chapter 12.2: First Battle – Akane
It was a mistake.
As soon as the two spells came into contact, a great light filled her vision and she was blinded.
“Success!” Akane’s cheerful voice could be heard.
Magichemical Series, Experimental Spell 2: Flashbang
By creating a very thin rock shell and filling it chock full of magnesium, Akane created a very potent flashbang. Originally, she had been planning to shoot it down with a firebolt of her own once it reached the B-ranker. Thankfully, the B-ranker had done it for her.
“Gah!” Blinded by the flashbang, the B-ranker sent her firebolts flying in all directions. Just as the mini-explosions were coming to an end, she rubbed her eyes and managed to slightly recover her vision. To her great shock, the scary girl was nowhere to be found.
Oho~ This is a success as well, huh?
Indeed, she had gone invisible.
In order to avoid being blinded by her own grenade and to hide, Akane had bent the light around her whole body, including her eyes. She hadn’t planned to go invisible. However, it was unavoidable once the B-ranker chose to detonate without care. After avoiding the great damage that could be caused by staring into a magnesium flare, Akane had canceled the spell around her eyes. Unbeknownst to her, a situation similar to hers was occurring not too far away.
Well then, let’s wrap things up~
Without any mercy, she summoned a third experimental spell.
Magichemical Series, Experimental Spell 3: Napalm
This was Akane’s personal favorite which she had tested on her father months back. It was a modified firebolt with a rock container within. What did the container hold?
A loud explosion rang out as the spell reached the surprised B-ranker, who barely managed to dodge at the last moment.
Nitroglycerin: one of the most volatile chemicals in existence, and commonly used in bombs. When the bolt contacted its target, the casing would break, allowing the nitroglycerin to ignite.
Seeing the gigantic crater which had appeared in a matter of seconds, the B-ranker’s face began to drain of blood as her limbs shook from fear. I made-
“‘I made a huge mistake’ is probably what you’re thinking right now.
“Well, too late to regret your decisions now!”
As the cheerful proclamation rang out, several more Napalm Bolts appeared in the air. They almost seemed harmless as they rotated sluggishly in the air but that was simply a facade hiding a gigantic threat.
Faced with the demoness, the B-ranker prepared body enhancements and began to run.
“Watch where ya put yer feet, damn it!”
“I’m drained of mana. Leave me be.”
Shun was supporting his worn-out brother while walking back towards the area where the battle had begun.
“Got it, got it-ey, d’ya smell somethin’ burnin’?” He stopped mid-step, frowning.
Hearing his words, Hiroshi took a deep breath in through his nose. Indeed, the air smelled of burning leaves. Looking back to his frowning twin, he nodded. Without further ado, Shun grabbed onto Hiroshi before summoning Hermes and rushing to the scene.
The twins had been preparing themselves, however, they were not prepared for the view of hell they were met with mere minutes later. And in the center…
“Now once again, what did you do wrong?”
“I went a bit-”
“Really trigger happy.”
“Okay, and why is this bad?”
“… Because the surroundings have been trashed. I could’ve attracted the attention of others… And I might have traumatized someone…”
… A surreal scene appeared before the two: a brother lecturing his sister while a conscious yet lifeless girl was lying on the floor. Speechless, they didn’t move and stayed at the edge of the clearing, dumbfounded.
