Chapter 3.1: Family Celebration
“… And then you got this expression on your face like a protagonist from a drama, ufufufufufu!”
Akira slumped in his seat and his face landed next to his breakfast with a dull thud. Akane started snickering as she watched him. The mocking, sadistic grin on her face made it seem impossible that she had been crying the day before. Unfortunately, her jovial mood did not last long as the woman laughing nearby turned to her.
“But Akane, your face was priceless! You were crying tears of joy! You were probably thinking, ‘I am so happy for Onii-chan,’ or something, right? Ufufufufufu!”
The same groan, dull thud, and hiding of the face; but this time it was Akane’s turn…
Next to her head on the table, the woman wearing an apron put down a plate as she continued laughing. The spitting image of Akane, or rather, it was Akane who was the spitting image of her. The youthful mother of the Nishiyama family, Nishiyama Haruna. The only obvious difference between the two was the hair; Haruna wore it in a bun while Akane was sporting her usual ponytail.
“You two, it’s not that bad. You just embarrassed yourselves a bit.”
““[O]Tou-san! Are you serious? This is terrible!””
Chuckling in response to their overlapping response was a man who looked like a joke game avatar. If you maxed out all the size sliders to find out what the resulting avatar would look like, you’d get a digital model of this man. The two meter tall man’s muscles rippled under his clean suit which was having its durability tested by his booming laughter alone. Surrounded by spiky brown hair was a gentle expression that contrasted from his fierce face that held a pair of sharp brown eyes. He sipped some coffee from a mug. He didn’t need a saucer as his palm alone was big enough. If he had red hair like the rest of his family, he could’ve been mistaken for an older version of Akira, albeit much more muscular. He was their father Nishiyama Gou, who looked exactly as his name suggested.
*AN: The Japanese name “Gou” has the meaning of a person who is strong or tough.
“But Kaa-san! You were teary-eyed as well and hugged Onii-chan really tightly!”
“Your reaction felt much more emotional than mine, you know~”
“How does that make sense?!”
Akane angrily protested to her laughing mother. Sighing, Akira thought back to the evening of the day he synthesized.
