It would’ve sounded insolent coming from anyone else, but the maid was oddly likable; her attitude showed that she was going to drink and chat without a care for who the other three were. While Cecile gazed at the maid with one-sided friendliness, Tania began to share her troubles.
“This is really about a friend of mine, but…” Tania paused to throw back the remaining wine in her glass. Her face instantly reddened and her eyes glazed over. Apparently, she had exceeded her limit. Resuming her story with a slur, she said, “She told me that she’s known this drag— Umm, subordinate for a while! At first, she just thought of him as the family do— Umm, as like a puppyish person. A kind of really stupid one. So, they got to spend a lot of time together, one way or another, and grew a bit close… But one day, he suddenly turned into a total hottie. Like… with the perfect, ideal looks. And she told me that all of a sudden he called her his girlfriend without permission and acted all friendly… What do you think she should do?”
“Boink him,” the saintess immediately answered.
Cecile and Tania spit out the wine in their mouths. The saintess wiped away the liquor that had been sprayed on her face and continued, “Whatever the case may be, she must like him since he’s her ideal type, yeah? And it sounds like he’s the one coming onto her, calling her his girlfriend. So, what’s the problem?”
“U-uh… They’ve looked at some iffy stuff together like close friends do! Um, so… You know, the kind of sensual and heart-warming stuff! And they have the same tastes in novels and comics… Suddenly treating each other as love interests after going through all that is…”
“Doesn’t that make it all the better?” The saintess looked even more nonplussed from Tania’s stuttering explanation. “It means they have the same taste, doesn’t it? I’m sure the nights will be hot and happy then. It’s not easy having the same hobbies like that.”
“Hot and happy… nights?” Echoing the saintess’s words, Tania turned beet red; it looked like her face was about to explode.
“N-no, it’s not like I’m going to do something like that with him! It’s just a little disconcerting. S-still, shouldn’t you keep an image that comes off a bit mysterious and such to the other person? Isn’t that what dating is all about? What kind of romance starts with all the cards on the table!”
The pretext of the story being about her friend had already been long forgotten, but Tania didn’t notice her mistake… not that the others cared at all. Tania recalled the time Girgantia had come to her with a question regarding a certain novel.
“This here. How is it possible?”
‘Oh God… And it was a super-explicit illustrated novel!’ Why had she assumed the dragon was female and pretentiously went on and on with her explanation? In tears, she grabbed another bottle of wine. If Girgantia came to her now with another question about that book in his current appearance, then… ‘I should die. A clean death.’ She wanted to die just from the thought of it.
‘Besides, the things described in those novels are just my reading preferences. Reality is different!’ Tania’s reading preferences leaned on the side of dangerous and risqué, but it wasn’t like she dreamed of such spicy romance in real life. ‘I just want to go on dates and play together while holding hands… Receive a gift of flowers, and eat delicious things.’
However, her dreams were already ruined. The fact that Girgantia was the one she had fallen for was in itself a bummer, but it was only worsened by the fact that the dragon was privy to her deepest secrets. And in truth, that wasn’t the only thing that troubled her.
