Chapter 24.2 : Saint Anxiety[Saint Side 1]
「The Demon King finally made his move. …Is what you mean to say, right? The time has come, huh.」
In an instant, my face paled dramatically.
「I don’t know. I don’t know the current situation, but please calm down for now and listen to me. Now, have you calmed yourself?」
「I’m already calm enough. ….. So what could it be?」
「According to the report, not even one villager was injured in this incident. And they also reported that those demons had named that girl from the start. It’s as if their goal was that girl from the very beginning」
「That’s………. What’s that mean? Isn’t that too strange?」
From what I knew, demons only differentiate humans through their age. And by that, I mean that demons can only distinguish if humans are young or elderly, not the precise age. And they do that because they cannot distinguish a human’s gender.
Or at least, that was what I thought up until now. Before now, I had never heard of a case where they kidnapped a specific person.
「The kidnapped girl is 17 years old, yet to marry, and has no boyfriend.」
「Same age as me isn’t it.」
The saints aren’t allowed to get married or have a lover. That’s why, hearing that a girl the same age as me didn’t have a boyfriend, made me feel some sort of affinity with her.
After all, it’s not strange for someone to get married at that age, but it’s not too late either. Then again, usually girls would feel anxious about the surrounding people’s eyes if they’re not married yet at that age.
In short, 17 years old is delicate age for unmarried girl.
「The name of the village is Marielle village.」
「Oh my, that village has the same name as me? 」
「It seems that the name of the kidnapped girl is Lefiya.」
「…….. Old man.」
「This is why I said, calm yourself.」
No, wait a minute. Pardon?
What？ This. What did this suppose to mean?
There’s a 17 years old girl called Lefiya of Marielle village. And she was named by the Demon King personally and got kidnapped.
That’s the story right.
Coincidentally, I, here, am also a village girl.
Named Marielle of Lefiya village.
Also a 17 years old girl.
Are you kidding me. Are you fucking kidding me here. Are you kidding me!
I had never heard of a story where a Demon King is aiming for a specific girl from a rural village. However the situation would change if the said is a saint. Only at that time would a Demon King aimed for a specific person.
I mean, it’s the saint you know.
The one who is sent to beat those demons.
And that is my job.
I approached the high priest, and then bang my hands on his desk.
「What does that mean?! Don’t tell me! They’ve mistaken that girl for me?! 」
「Do not rush into such a conclusion. Such things have yet to be decided…Maybe… No」
「Shouldn’t we go to save her immediately!? I won’t let something like having others suffer because of me!! Prepare for war. Immediately.」
「That’s my plan.」
「Preparing for war I mean.. Don’t worry, we’ll do it immediately since I know that you like to rush into things. Besides, we can’t use the Anti Demon King Pact in this case, because it’ll take too much time if we have to wait for allied forces to mobilize their armies. Thus, we have no choice but to rely on our own force to save that girl.」
How unusual…my uncle’s state is somewhat different than what he normally is like.
It’s as if my uncle -who was the very definition of timid and indecisive person- turned into a completely different person.
What happened to him? But then, I noticed that his face is turning paler as time passed by.
「I would’ve never expected that the high priest, who has always been putting caution on top of being vigilance, suddenly make such a hasty decision. I wonder what kind of reason made him to do so? 」
「I have no hidden motive. I just can’t help but feel that this is an urgent matter.」
「But then, isn’t it too dangerous even for us to go against the Demon King in a fight? Let alone win, we can’t even be sure of our prospect of victory!」
「I do think so. But we don’t have to win this war. We just need to rescue the girl called Lefiya and avoid war if possible.」
「As long as everything goes well according to the plan then it’ll be fine. However, things rarely goes according to plan.」
「And we have to make sure it goes well even if it isn’t. We’ll take along the hero and the saint, which is you and your partner as well. Even that noble hating hero will be surprised if he knew that we are doing this to save a village girl. We will take along the order of the holy sword too.」
By “Taking along”, don’t tell me….
「Are you planning to go along too, dear uncle? 」
「I’ll be the one who will be holding the overall command baton this time. I’ll leave the command of the battle to the captain of chivalric order, but I’ll be there to ensure that there won’t be any battle.」
「Understood. I’ll make the preparation so that we can move out immediately. Shall I inform hero-sama about this matter too? 」
「Please. Is there anything else?」
「As you command. Maybe you better have a short holiday, dear uncle. You don’t look too healthy ever since a while ago.」
「Ah. Sorry, after this matter is finished, I’ll accept your offer…I really want to rest for a while.」
「Your health is of the utmost importance, please don’t force yourself. Well then, excuse me.」
The sudden change in my dear uncle is just too terrifying. It looked like he’s hiding something. His action is just too suspicious, but since the person himself didn’t let anything slip, I could do nothing for now.
Let’s just watch the situation for a while.
Thinking that, I settled my mind somewhat over that and left my dear uncle’s office.
Then my mind turned to the Demon King.
The King of the demons, the Tyrant Sunra.
Just thinking of him made my chest thump wildly, and it wouldn’t calm down for a while now.
The previous saint lost to Sunra, and was killed.
And I had to wonder how much my current self fares in comparison with the previous saint. After all right now I’d to face the Demon King who had killed her. Honestly, I didn’t want to think too much about it before, but now that thought kept popping up in my mind, even if I didn’t want to think about it.
Ever since I decided to live as a saint, I’ve long since expect this kind of situation to come by, but scary things are still scary things.
I’ll die if I lose the battle.
Just like the previous saint.
I, by no means, am special.
But then, I recall that a village girl my age is experiencing an even more terrifying situation. At the very least, I had time to prepare for those sort of situation and had the resolve to handle it. I had to have this much resolution as a saint. Because that is the sort of things a saint had to go through sometimes before defeating or killing a Demon King. But, she is different. She isn’t a saint, and yet she had to go through such a horrible experience.
She might be mistaken for me.
Thus, I have to save her.
I resolved myself, changing my fears to bravery.
Taking a deep breath, I forced my trembling limbs to settle down.
