Chapter 2: Have You Ever Loved Me? (2)
Bai Qingyan threw a painful look over Gu Yezhi.
Streams of red liquid covered his body whole. Pink flesh blanketed the ground and wall. His body fell back, soul now devoid of life.
Her heart stopped beating and shattered to pieces.
She knew Gu Yezhi loved her, but to this extent? She was unaware. Through the bouts of pain running through his body, he ignored it for her sake. For her safety, he went through all the effort. She betrayed him, yet he cared for her. She was vicious towards him… yet, why did he save her…?
“Yezhi…” Bai Qingyan’s heart collapsed and split in two. The taste of his name on her tongue pained her for she knew this name no longer existed in this world.
She crawled to him like a wild animal wailing in pain who’d recently lost her lifelong companion. She mourned his death and sobbed, releasing the creature from inside her chest.
Bai Qingyan wrapped her trembling arms around him.
“Yezhi…” She called out.
His body had lost all its previous warmth, feeling cold to the bones. She realized it all too late. He had always protected her, but she never cared to notice.
Qingyan… Yan Yan… don’t be afraid. You always have me by your side…
“Bai Qingyan!” Gu Hang pulled on her hair, force more vicious than the last.
Her neck bent awkwardly from the force.
“Ha ha ha!” He laughed maniacally. “Qingyan, don’t you love me? You love me. Say it! Me! Not Gu Ye Zhi, right? Isn’t that right?!”
Bai Qingyan’s lifeless eyes broke free from the chains of Gu Hang cold gaze and looked towards Gu Yezhi. She felt no sense of pain and suffering from Gu Hang’s maltreatment, only an aching heart seeing Gu Yezhi’s lifeless state of being.
“Qingyan, don’t you know how much I love you? I love you so much I sent someone to do the work and break your legs! Now I killed your husband.” Gu Hang mocked and spat out. “Should you not love me? You should love me. In this life, you can only love no one but me!”
“Yezhi…” She said sorrowfully. Then, she turned her head back and looked at Gu Hang, her set of eyes full of fiery hatred.
“Did your husband advise you to stay with him?” Gu Hang pulled on Bai Qingyan’s hair more. “If only I hadn’t heard of this plan, things would not have turned out this way, right, Bai Qingyan?”
“Ah — so you planned this all along…” Losing her sense of rationality, Bai Qingyan rushed towards Gu Hang and bit his neck.
So this was planned all along… his death…
Gu Hang pushed her off. “Bitch, you’re dead!”
“Cough…” Bai Qingyan spat out a mouthful of blood, but despite this, she felt no pain, only an apathetic sense of abyss.
She crawled back to Gu Yezhi and placed her shaking arms around him, watery eyes reddening and tears soaking in the pools of red.
“Yezhi… wake up… wake up…. I don’t want you to die… you… don’t you want a family…? Shall I bear your child…? I promise… you… Ye Zhi… wake up… wake up… I… I was wrong…”
She loathed herself.
“Die together with him, Bai Qingyan.”
Bai Qingyan closed her eyes, aching tears continuing to spill forth.
Yan Yan… from this moment on, I, Gu Yezhi, your husband, will love you forever and ever. I swear to protect you for the rest of my life...
Yan Yan, I will be your leg from now on. Where do you want to go? I’ll carry you on my back. Don’t worry, I’ll be here for you forever and always…
Yan Yan, if the whole world hates you, you’ll always have me by your side forever. It’s a promise…
Yan Yan, shall we have a child? What about a girl? I’m sure she’ll be as cute as you. Are you okay with this or…?
“Yezhi… I was wrong…”
