Chapter 15 - Sugar Baby
Under the starry night, the nightlife of the capital city had just started.
“Want to go somewhere to have fun?” Mu Mingcheng asked as he checked his watch in front of his car. After leaving Yuqing Pavilion, the man had immediately put his glasses back on, which gave him an innocent, social elite look.
Mu Mingcheng thought that no matter how mature Gu Jin was, she was still a twenty-year-old girl. Going shopping with her would be a good way to grow their relationship.
Seeing Mu Mingcheng’s face up close was certainly pleasing to the eye. A short while ago, Gu Jin hadn’t been able to resist the temptation, and she had eaten some spicy-sour food. It had given her a slight stomachache. But she was feeling much better now.
Normally, she would have refused the man’s invitation. But she had promised Cheng Xin to attend the banquet at the Jing household, so she needed a dress for the occasion. The original host’s wardrobe was outdated in fashion, which was why Gu Jin wanted to shop for a gown at the mall. The dress didn’t have to be the best, but she didn’t want to embarrass herself at the very least.
She had matters to attend to in the following two days. So since she was free tonight, Gu Jin decided to buy a dress now and save going for another trip to the mall.
As a matter of fact, it would give Mu Mingcheng the opportunity to experience the “wonderful” feeling of accompanying a lady on her shopping trip.
Therefore, Gu Jin nodded and said, “I want to buy clothes at the mall.”
Secretary Fang had disappeared during the dinner. But the muscular yet inconspicuous man suddenly reappeared out of nowhere.
“Sir.” Secretary Fang had seen the two come out and had stepped forward. He looked at Gu Jin, who wanted to continue the conversation with Mu Mingcheng but had stopped.
Gu Jin’s words halted at the edge of her mouth. She looked over her shoulder and pointed to some flowerpots near the door and smiled. “That type of flower is very rare. My father likes these things. I’ll go and have a look.”
Mu Mingcheng grabbed her arm, and his eyes shone under the gold wire glasses. He gently said, “If Professor Gu likes flowers, then I’ll have Secretary Fang send some to him. Consider it as a gift from his junior.”
Mu Mingcheng then shot a cold gaze toward his secretary, “If you have something to say then don’t hold back!”
“Yes.” As Secretary Fang recovered from the shock, he said seriously, “Young Master Xu called. He requested you to go to the Xu Estate.”
His gold-rimmed glasses flashed in the dim light. “Did he mention what it was about?” Mu Mingcheng sneered.
“He didn’t say anything. But I asked people from the Xu Estate. Master Xu is sick and wants to talk to you.” Secretary Fang took a quiet look at the green roses in front of the store. Except for the color, nothing was special about it.
Even without mentioning how affluent the Mu Family was, the scholarly Miss Gu should be aware of this fact, right?
It was no wonder that Mr. Mu liked this woman; she was smart and knew when to act. Although she appeared gentle on the surface, she had completely overturned her previous image and had elevated herself to a whole new level.
Gu Jin glanced at Mu Mingcheng’s reflection on the car window and saw his annoyed face. The man was normally calm, and he looked like the type who would smile while putting a knife through someone. So, when someone caused his expression to turn cold, she became interested. She became curious about this Young Master Xu.
But the Xu Estate?
It seems that Mu Mingcheng’s mother is surnamed Xu!
The Xu Estate’s young master and eldest son should be his cousin, so why the hostility? Sure enough, these people from rich families have complicated relationships.
“Where did you say you wanted to go?” Mu Mingcheng’s voice broke her out of her deep thoughts.
“I wasn’t thinking of going anywhere. If Mr. Mu has a matter to attend to, please do so.” She smiled and sensibly said, “I’ll walk around a bit myself and be back in a moment.”
Mu Mingcheng stared at her radiant, soft face and felt a quiet sense of stability. Maybe it was just the atmosphere, or maybe it was just because the person was good-looking. Even though he knew she was acting, his chest ached with tenderness. He couldn’t help but lean down for a kiss. Then he took her bag and sat in the back seat. “Name the place. I’ll take you there first.”
Gu Jin hadn’t expected him to steal a kiss from her in this situation. She was stunned. It was the middle of mealtime with many cars coming and going through the parking lot. A number of beautiful ladies saw them flirting and glared enviously at Gu Jin, piercing her body with the knives that appeared to be shooting from their eyes.
Secretary Fang turned his head and looked around to indicate to the crowd that they weren’t to be watched. The burly man then stoically sat on the front seat.
Gu Jin touched the spot where Mu Mingcheng kissed her. She suddenly felt shy. But she recovered her composure in a second. For two people in a relationship, a kiss or two wasn’t a big deal.
But Mu Mingcheng taking the bag for her made her feel a bit flattered. She went in and sat next to him, before telling the driver, “To the mall, thank you.”
The driver started the car and smoothly drove forward.
Inside the car, Mu Mingcheng took out a black card and handed it to her. “Just buy whatever you want.”
Gu Jin was left speechless.
Was she a sugar baby?
According to the novel characterization, she would’ve felt insulted by this type of action. She would then slap away the CEO’s black card and righteously say something like “I’m not here for your money” or “Do your business with dignity” to attract his attention.
Gu Jin felt a little excited to try it out. However, if she really tried doing that, Mu Mingcheng would check to see if she had a fever. Then, he would straightaway send her to a neurologist.
But Gu Jin felt guilty that she could not act according to the plot. Still, she wouldn’t accept money from others, especially not from Mu Mingcheng. What if he added another condition that couldn’t be written off?
So she thought of rejecting it. But when she touched the card, she changed her mind. She showed a surprised expression and flirtingly said, “Thank you, Mr. Mu.”
Mu Mingcheng slightly frowned. The card was supposed to make up for the fact that he couldn’t go shopping with her. But seeing her accept it so easily, he felt a little uncomfortable.
It was right to spend money on his girlfriend, wasn’t it?
“What do you want to buy?” he asked, suppressing his discomfort.
Gu Jin smiled and innocently replied, “There’s a banquet I need to attend the day after tomorrow. So I have to buy some dresses. And also a few pairs of shoes.”
Upon hearing the word “shoes,” the first thing that came to Mu Mingcheng’s mind was her pointy high heels. His foot that had been injured by those weapons subconsciously twitched. Mu Mingcheng looked at her comfortably placed feet and sighed.
He continued to say, “A banquet the day after tomorrow? Jing Estate?”
“Yes.” Gu Jin was not surprised that he knew about it. Jing House was a family with a certain reputation. And even though they couldn’t compare with the Mu House, they were still in the same social circle.
“Stop the car,” he suddenly said.
The driver obeyed and slowly brought the car to a halt at the side of the road.
“Hmm? Why are we stopping?”
Mu Mingcheng loosened his necktie. He stared at her with eyes as deep as pools. “There’s no need to buy it. I’ll ask someone to send a dress to you later. I’ll pick you up at your place the day after tomorrow.”
He’s going, too?
“All right, I’ll wait.”
The situation at the Jing Estate was complicated, but with Mu Mingcheng, the show would be much more exciting.
The one downside, however, was that their relationship would be made public.
Secretary Fang, who was in the front seat had witnessed everything from the rear-view mirror. And as he heard their conversation, his opinion of Gu Jin had regrettably dropped by several levels.
How could you accept the boss’s card? Don’t you know that female leads in novels often attract the CEOs by adhering to their pride and not bowing down to money?
It was unfortunate that even when reading CEO romance novels, Secretary Fang would place his own boss in the arrogant male lead’s position. Even so, he knew that comparing his boss to the CEO male lead was an insult to his boss’s intellect.
