Chapter 11 - Trial Relationship
In her previous life, Gu Jin had often heard her female friends complain of severely painful menstrual cramps.
“It hurts so much. It’s unbearable…”
“It feels like a strong man punching your abdomen with a heavy fist…”
“The pain is so sharp! Just like a dull knife piercing through your flesh…”
Whenever she had heard them complain, Gu Jin thought they were exaggerating.
In her personal experience, she would only feel a slight ache during the first two days of her menstruation. But the pain didn’t remain afterward. So, Gu Jin couldn’t relate to any of her friend’s stories.
But now, she had the chance to personally experience it!
Gu Jin knitted her brows and gritted her teeth as she bore the pain. Her face quickly turned pale, and a thin layer of sweat precipitated at the tip of her small, exquisite nose. Her blue veins began to visibly swell underneath her pale skin, and her knees weakly shivered against the man’s thighs. Waves of pain pounded upon her sensitive nerves like a tidal wave. The dizziness caused her to almost faint.
That was her mistake.
The original host had been a quiet girl who didn’t enjoy playing sports. Her physical fitness was in worse shape than what the current Gu Jin was used to. At times, her menstrual cramps were so serious that she had to resort to taking a few painkillers. Even her menstrual cycle had always been erratic, so the original host could never predict when it would arrive. Therefore, she would always prepare a hot pack and a bottle of warm water.
However, the current Gu Jin, who had recently crossed over to this world, was going through this agony for the first time. Such torture seemed to suck half the life out of her. She wished she could hug her former friends in that past life and apologize to them for not understanding.
Mu Mingcheng reached out to brush a stray strand of Gu Jin’s hair behind her ear. The corners of his lips lifted to form a content smile as he savored the soft fragrance and warmth of the woman within his arms.
Since the first time he laid eyes on her, Mu Mingcheng had realized that she had an attractive face and an alluring figure. Her temperament was also not as boring as the bookish woman the investigation report had mentioned. After all, anyone who was able to sense his dangerous nature at one glance was no ordinary person.
Since she was still wearing her traditional Chinese cheongsam, he couldn’t look away from her well-endowed, tall peaks. The woman’s tiny waist struggled against his grasp. Her slender thighs were slightly exposed through her dress’s slits.
The contrast between hard and soft seemed to put Mu Mingcheng in a daze. The depths of his eyes darkened, and his breath became hot. It seemed this situation went a little beyond his self-control.
Mu Mingcheng was the type of person who never liked to inconvenience himself. Because of this, he had chosen to join the army while avoiding relationships with any woman.
But this time, he had actually managed to meet a rare woman who caught his interest.
So why not give it a try?
Feeling as if his heartstrings were being tugged, Mu Mingcheng reached out for Gu Jin’s white earlobe and pinched it. Under the dim light, the woman’s small earlobe seemed to reflect the afterglow of the setting sun. It made her appear delicate and tender. Such a tempting sight made his Adam’s apple move, and his mouth felt dry.
He really wanted to taste this delicacy.
But he was destined to be disappointed.
When Mu Mingcheng felt the woman’s resistance diminish within his arms, he secretly praised her for doing something that would make him regain his senses. She didn’t seem to be doing as well as she was earlier. As he leaned over, he found Gu Jin intensely shivering, and she felt unusually cold. Her originally ruddy lip had turned pale, making her look more pitiful.
Suddenly, Mu Mingcheng’s mood dropped below the freezing point.
Was he that difficult to tolerate?
He reluctantly retreated a little and no longer pinned her down with his weight. How did this woman’s physical condition suddenly become so poor when he had yet to exact his revenge?
Just a few days ago within that dim room, the woman had struck him swiftly and skillfully, without a trace of weakness.
Mu Mingcheng asked with a frown, “What happened to you?”
As Gu Jin was about to slip into unconsciousness, the sound of a man’s voice gradually pulled her back to her senses. She woke up to a sharp aching pain in her lower abdomen. The woman resisted the urge to groan. She faintly stared at the firm arms that held her steady before shifting her gaze to the handsome man. Such a face was truly alluring. But she could not be interested in a beautiful face if its owner was a devil.
Maybe she’s in pain!
Meanwhile, when Gu Ji recalled his earlier question, she knew that he was confused. Even in her previous world, most men weren’t good at surmising the difficulties of women. She sneered and sharply reprimanded him, “My relatives are here. Would you mind letting go of me first?”
“Your relatives?” Mu Mingcheng didn’t budge, and instead, his meaningful smile deepened. “Is Miss Gu treating me as a fool?”
“Oh!” As Gu Jin rolled her eyes at him, she suddenly felt a pressure in her lower abdomen. She froze.
This familiar sensation.
She didn’t have any time to throw a tantrum. Instead, she could only close her eyes and swallow her embarrassment. She said through gritted teeth, “Believe it or not, I’m on my vacation.”
Mu Mingcheng wasn’t familiar with the phrase “relatives came to visit”. But when it came to a girl’s “vacation,”1Holiday or vacation is a Chinese idiom for a woman’s period of menstruation. any normal man would know what it meant. He was no exception. He hadn’t expected the word “relative” to refer to such a thing. His body turned stiff, and his face darkened.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier?” Although he used a scolding tone, a tinge of warmth had appeared beneath his words, and his mood had improved.
Gu Jin looked up at him as if he had lost his mind. Did he not understand me and actually believed that menstruation means an actual legal holiday?
Mu Mingcheng avoided her disbelieving eyes as he loosened his embrace and rubbed his nose.
Gu Jin struggled with walking with her high heels. But she could only endure her pain as long as she supported herself on her way to the dressing room. She vowed to never wear any heels higher than six centimeters again in her life! The small backpack she had left in the locker room carried a spare feminine pad that she habitually carried with her just in case.
After tidying up her clothes and calming down her sour mood, she finally walked out of the dressing room. Sure enough, Mu Mingcheng still hadn’t left. And just as she had stepped out of the building, he turned around and their eyes met. Gu Jin felt embarrassed for a moment.
“Mr. Mu, let’s be frank.” Gu Jin slung her backpack on her shoulder and suddenly looked up at him with a smile. Her pale face looked as attractive as a fresh spring blossom. “A man as outstanding as you must’ve met countless wealthy people along with many kinds of treasures. I’m afraid that my cheap jade bracelet is unworthy of you.”
Mu Mingcheng was once again surprised at how calmly the woman composed herself. But this only provoked his interest even further. A smart woman could trigger a stronger sense of conquest for a man. His eyes flashed underneath his golden spectacles as he waited to see what else she had to say.
“It was my mistake for offending Mr. Mu without knowing who you were. You have the right to be angry,” Gu Jin said as her long lashes fluttered. “But that bracelet is very important to me. Is Mr. Mu willing to return it?”
Although the young woman’s face was pale, her lips were raised to a pleasant smile. It gave her an appearance that could easily evoke pity from any man.
But Mu Mingcheng was not an average man.
“Oh? Then tell me, under what conditions?” The man laughed. Naturally, he had investigated the bracelet’s origins and knew of its significance to her. He then removed his glasses, finally revealing his alluring, sharp, and upturned eyes. Raising Gu Jin’s chin, he bowed his head to a dangerously close distance from her soft lips.
“Tell me, what should I do if I’m only interested in Miss Gu? Hmm?” The man’s voice was deep and seductive.
Gu Jin turned her chin away from his grasp and replied, “What does Mr. Mu mean?”
“What I mean is. I want Miss Gu to be my girlfriend.” He rubbed his fingertips with satisfaction.
“Mr. Mu thinks of me too highly. This position isn’t something I can afford to climb,” Gu Jin jokingly said. She then stepped back before saying, “Besides, I already have a boyfriend!”
I’m sorry Shao Chong, but I’ll be redirecting his knife toward you for the time being. Gu Jin didn’t feel any guilt at all for doing so.
But Mu Mingcheng didn’t care for her reply and said, “But Miss Gu, your feelings for your “ex-boyfriend” aren’t so deep!”
Gu Jin was caught by surprise. She had never mentioned breaking up with Shao Chong to anyone. And based on Shao Chong’s personality, he wasn’t the type to publicize such a thing either. And yet this man knew about it!
Her eyes glinted as numerous calculations took place inside her mind. She smiled and said, “All right, I’ll cooperate with you.”
Naturally, she wasn’t so narcissistic as to believe that the female protagonist’s shining moonlight was in love with her, nor did she ignore the pressure from Mu Mingcheng’s words. Since this overbearing president wanted to play a game with her, she would oblige him.
“However, Mr. Mu should specify a time limit for this unfair relationship.”
“Three months. It’ll be a trial relationship,” Mu Mingcheng quickly replied. He was satisfied with her reply, but he also felt a bit uncomfortable for rushing her into a relationship with him. He believed that the issue lay with his mind. Three months should be enough for him to enjoy her company and to finally lose interest in her. And getting together for only that short period would save him a lot of time and money.
Gu Jin also relaxed. Although she had unexpectedly met the enemy at a narrow bridge, the winner was yet to be known! Her smile deepened.
After the graduation ceremony concluded, the audience began to return home. Gu Jin slowly moved through the crowd as she struggled to walk through. But suddenly, she felt her entire body being lifted.
“Wait, what are you doing? Put me down now!”
After Mu Mingcheng lifted her with his powerful arms, he made sure to cover her body with his suit jacket. He scolded her, “I won’t.”
Such a tyrant!
Gu Jin silently pulled his jacket to cover her face in embarrassment. She wouldn’t dare show her face to the passing crowd.
